Affected Teaching
-
Here we have one of those verses which have been mutilated
in several ways. The HCSB, CEV, NLT, and NAB take the first part of the
verse and create an 18th verse for chapter 12. Chapter 12 only
has 17 verses. Now the verse addition is not inspired but will cause people
to look at the other versions and think that verse 18 is missing. Now that
would be par for the course for the minority text versions but not for the versions
based off of the Majority Texts or TR which ends the 12th chapter
at verse 17. Even in the versions that are in paragraph form these changes
makes for a complete restructure of Chapter 12 & 13. In chapter 13,
John is continuing to record the vision that God is giving him and he states
that he I standing on the sand of the sea or something like a beach and
he was watching this beast rise out of the sea. In the minority text versions
it is kind of confusing because it states that “he stood” on the sand of
the sea, which is pointing to the dragon of 12:17. This is incorrect because
John is the one giving account and is telling us that it is he who is seeing
this vision and by removing “I stood” then the minority text versions remove the
prophecy being given to John.
