versions omit a very important phrase “of God.” This shows
specifically that the temple which Jesus entered was the
Temple of God. Jesus quotes from both Isaiah and Jeremiah
concerning the reason for the temple. (Isa 56:7
KJV) Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make
them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and
their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine
house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
(Jer 7:11 KJV) Is this house, which is called by my name,
become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have
seen it, saith the LORD. The temple
of God was to be a house of prayer for all people but the
temple leaders had turned it into a personal business. This
is why Jesus quotes from Jeremiah 7:11, that the temple had
become a den of robbers. Then Jesus commenced to toss out
the money changers. God specifically calls the temple “mine
house” and “this house which is called by my name“ that is
what the Scripture in Matthew 21:12 is specifically alluding
to when it states the temple of God because this is a
fulfillment of prophecy. By omitting “of God” one can place
any temple in this verse, even a pagan temple but the Modern
Literal and the King James versions retains “of God” thus
teaching us that the moneychangers were a fulfillment of
prophecy.
