Gospel According to Matthew  (MLV)

Matthew 8)

8:1 And when he had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. 8:2 And behold, a leper having come to him, worshiped him, saying, Lord, if you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.

8:3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 8:4 And Jesus says to him, See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, FOR a testimony to them. {Lev. 13:49, 14:2ff}

8:5 And when Jesus entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, beseeching him, 8:6 and saying, Lord, my manservant, a paralytic, has been laid in the house, fearfully tormented. 8:7 And Jesus says to him, I will come and heal him.

8:8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof; but only speak with the word of authority and my manservant will be healed. 8:9 For* I am a man under authority also, having under soldiers me and I say to this one, Go and he goes; and to another, Come and he comes; and to my bondservant, Do this and he does it.

8:10 And when Jesus heard it, he marveled and said to those who followed, Truly I say to you*, I have not found so great a faith, no, not in Israel. 8:11 And I say to you*, that many will come from the east and the west and will recline with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven: 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness: the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there. 8:13 And Jesus said to the centurion, Go your way and as you have believed, so it has happened for you*. And his manservant was healed in that hour.

8:14 And when Jesus had come into Peter's house, he saw that his mother-in-law was lying and burning with a fever. 8:15 And he touched her hand and the fever left her; and she arose and ministered to him. 8:16 And when it became evening, they brought to him many possessed with demons and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were ill: 8:17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, He himself took our sicknesses and bore our diseases. {Is. 53:4}

8:18 Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave commandments to depart to the other side. 8:19 And a scribe, having come to him, said, Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.

8:20 And Jesus says to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of Man has no where to lay his head. 8:21 And another of his disciples said to him, Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father. 8:22 But Jesus said to him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.

8:23 And when he had entered into the boat, his disciples followed him. 8:24 And behold, a great tempest arose in the sea, so-that the boat was covered by the waves: but he was asleep. 8:25 And the disciples having come to him, awoke him, saying, Save us, Lord; we are perishing. 8:26

And he says to them, Why are you* fearful, O you* of little faith? Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there became a great calm. 8:27 And the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

8:28 And when he had come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, two possessed with demons met him, coming forth out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so-that not anyone was able to pass by that way. 8:29 And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with you, Jesus the Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time? 8:30 Now a herd of many swine was feeding afar off from them. 8:31 And the demons besought him, saying, If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of swine.

8:32 And he said to them, Go. And they came out and went into the herd of swine and behold, the whole herd of swine rushed down the cliff into the sea and died in the waters. 8:33 And those who fed them fled and went away into the city and reported everything and what had happened to those who were possessed with demons. 8:34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus and when they saw him, they besought him that* he might depart from their borders.
