Gospel According to Matthew  (MLV)

Matthew 6)

6:1 Take-heed that you* do not do your* alms before men, to be seen by them: or else you* have no reward from your* Father who is in heaven.

6:2 Therefore when you do alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you*, They have received their reward. 6:3 But when you do alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing: 6:4 that your alms may be in secret and your Father who sees in secret will repay you openly.

6:5 And when you* pray, Do not be as the hypocrites: because they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, so-that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you* that they have received their reward. 6:6 But you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will repay you openly. 6:7 And in praying, do not babble as the Gentile: for* they think that in their many words they will be heard. 6:8 Therefore do not be similar to them: for* your* Father knows what things you* have need of, before you* ask him. 6:9 Therefore pray in this manner: Our Father who is in the heavens, may your name be sanctified. 6:10 May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on the earth. 6:11 Give us this day our <9> needful bread. 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors also. 6:13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from <10> from the evil one. Because yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. 6:14 For* if you* forgive men their trespasses, your* heavenly Father will forgive you* also. 6:15 But unless you* forgive men their trespasses, neither will your* Father forgive your* trespasses.

6:16 Moreover when you* fast, do not become, as the hypocrites, with a gloomy countenance: for* they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Truly I say to you*, They have received their reward. 6:17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 6:18 that you do not appear to men to fast, but of your Father who is in secret and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you*.

6:19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves dig through your wall and steal. 6:20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not dig through your wall or steal. 6:21 For* where your treasure is, your heart will be there also. 6:22 The lamp of the body is the eye: therefore if your eye is single, your whole body will be light. 6:23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 6:24 No one is able to *serve two lords; for* either he will hate the one and love* the other; or else he will hold to one and despise the other. You* are not able to *serve God and money. 6:25 Therefore I say to you*, Do not be anxious for your* life, what you* will eat and what you* will drink; nor for what you* might put on your* body. Is not the life worth more than the food and the body worth more than the raiment? 6:26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns; and your* heavenly Father feeds them. Are you* not of much more value than they? 6:27 And which of you* by being anxious is able to add one cubit to his stature? 6:28 And why are you* anxious about raiment? Learn from the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not labor, nor spin: 6:29 yet I say to you*, that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like* one of these. 6:30 But if God in this manner clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you*, O you* of little faith? 6:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, What may we eat? or, What may we drink? or, What might we dress ourselves with? 6:32 For* after all these things the Gentiles are seeking; for* your* heavenly Father knows that you* have need of all these things. 6:33 But first seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things will be added to you*. 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious FOR the next day: for* the next day will be anxious enough for itself. Sufficient for the day is the <11>evil of it.
