Gospel According to Matthew  (MLV)

Matthew 4)

4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. 4:3 And the tempter came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, speak a command that* these stones may become bread.

4:4 But he answered and said, It has been written, 'Man will not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.' {Dt. 8:3}

4:5 Then the devil takes him into the holy city; and he stands him on the pinnacle of the temple, 4:6 and says to him, If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down: for* it has been written, 'He will command the angels concerning you*: and, on their hands they will lift you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.' {Ps. 91:11f}

4:7 Jesus said to him, Again it has been written, 'You will not test the Lord your God.' {Dt. 6:16}

4:8 Again, the devil takes him to an exceedingly high mountain and shows him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them; 4:9 and he says to him, I will give you all these things, if you will fall down and worship me.

4:10 Then Jesus says to him, Get behind me Satan: for* it has been written, 'You will worship the Lord your God and him only will you serve.' {Dt. 6:13} 4:11 Then the devil leaves him; and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

4:12 Now Jesus, having heard John was delivered up, withdrew into Galilee; 4:13 and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: 4:14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, ' 4:15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the <5>Gentiles, 4:16 the people who sat in darkness saw a great light and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, to those light has risen. {Is. 9.1f}

4:17 From that time began Jesus to preach and to say, Repent; for* the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.

4:18 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for* they were fishermen. 4:19 And he says to them, You* come after me and I will make you* fishermen of men. 4:20 And they immediately left the nets and followed him. 4:21 And going on from there he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 4:22 And they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.

4:23 And Jesus went around all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness among the people. 4:24 And the report of him went forth into all Syria and they brought to him all who were ill, held by various diseases and torments and possessed with demons and epileptic and paralyzed; and he healed them. 4:25 And there followed him great crowds from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.
