Gospel According to Matthew (MLV)
Matthew 26)
26:1 And it happened, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said to his disciples, 26:2 You* know that after two days the Passover happens and the Son of Man is delivered up to be crucified. 26:3 Then the high-priests and the scribes and the elders of the people were gathered together to the court of the high-priest, who was called Caiaphas; 26:4 and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus with guile and kill him. 26:5 But they said, Not during the feast, lest an uproar arise among people.
26:6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 26:7 a woman came to him, having an alabaster cruse of very precious ointment and she poured it upon his head, as he reclined at the table. 26:8 But when his disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 26:9 For* this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor.
26:10 But Jesus knowing it said to them, Why do you* bother the woman? For* she has worked a good work FOR me. 26:11 For* you* have the poor always with you; but you* do not have me always. 26:12 For* in that she <36>poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 26:13 Truly I say to you, Wherever this gospel will be preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will be spoken of, also, for a memorial of her.
26:14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the high-priests, 26:15 and said, What are you* willing to give me and I will deliver him to you? And they weighed to him thirty pieces of silver. 26:16 And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him to them.
26:17 Now on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him, Where do you wish that we make ready for you to eat the Passover? 26:18 And he said, Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is near; I will make the Passover with you at your house with my disciples. 26:19 And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the Passover.
26:20 Now when it became evening, he was reclining at the table with the twelve; 26:21 and as they were eating, he said, Truly I say to you, that one of you will deliver me to the Jews. 26:22 And they were extremely sorrowful and each one of them began to say to him, Is it In, Lord? 26:23 And he answered and said, He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, this one will deliver me to the Jews. 26:24 The Son of Man is going, just-as it has been written concerning him: but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered! It would be good for him if that man had not been born.
26:25 And Judas, who delivered him to the Jews, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi?
He says to him, You have said.
26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread and having blessed and broke and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 26:27 And he having taken the cup and given thanks, gave it to them, saying, All of you* drink from it; 26:28 for* this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out on behalf of many FOR the forgiveness of sins. 26:29 But I say to you, I will not drink from now on of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
26:30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
26:31 Then says Jesus to them, All you* will be offended in me this night: for* it has been written, I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered abroad. {Zech. 13.7} 26:32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.
26:33 But Peter answered and said to him, Even if all will be offended in you, I will never be offended.
26:34 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.
26:35 Peter says to him, Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you*. All the disciples also said similarly.
26:36 Then Jesus comes with them to an enclosed piece of ground called Gethsemane and says to his disciples, Sit here, until I go yonder and pray. 26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply depressed. 26:38 Then he says to them, My soul is very-sorrowful, even to death: you* abide here and watch with me. 26:39 And he went forward a little and fell on his face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will. 26:40 And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping and says to Peter, What, could you* not watch with me one hour? 26:41 Watch and pray, that you* do not enter into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 26:42 Again a second time he having went away, prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup is not able to pass from me unless I drink it, your will be done. 26:43 And he came again and found them sleeping, for* their eyes were heavy. 26:44 And he left them again and went away and prayed a third time, saying again the same words. 26:45 Then he comes to his disciples and says to them, Sleep on now and take your* rest: behold, the hour has drawn near and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 26:46 Arise, let us be going: behold, he has drawn near who is delivering me to the Jews.
26:47 And while he yet spoke, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came and with him a great crowd with swords and staves, from the high-priest and elders of the people. 26:48 Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomever I will kiss, that is he: take him. 26:49 And immediately he came to Jesus and said, Hail, Rabbi; and greatly kissed him.
26:50 And Jesus said to him, Friend, FOR what purpose are you here. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him. 26:51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and hit the bondservant of the high-priest and took off his ear.
26:52 Then says Jesus to him, Return your sword into its place: for* all those who take the sword will perish with the sword. 26:53 Or do you think that I am not able now to beseech my Father and he will send me more than twelve legions of angels? 26:54 How then should the scriptures be fulfilled that it must happen thus? 26:55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowds, Have you* come out as against a robber with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you* in the temple teaching and you* did not take me. 26:56 But all this has happened, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him and fled.
26:57 And those who had taken Jesus, led him away to the house of Caiaphas the high-priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 26:58 But Peter followed him from far off, to the court of the high-priest and entered inside and sat with the officers, to see the end. 26:59 Now the high-priests and the elders and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; 26:60 and they did not find any, even though many false witnesses came. Still they did not find any. But afterward two false witnesses came, 26:61 and said, This man said, I am able to tear-down the temple of God and to build it back in three days.
26:62 And the high-priest having stood up, said to him, Do you answer nothing? What do these testify against you? 26:63 But Jesus was silent. And the high-priest answering, said to him, I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.
26:64 Jesus said to him, You have said: nevertheless I say to you, from now on you* will see the Son of Man sitting from the right hand of power and coming on the clouds of heaven.
26:65 Then the high-priest ripped his garments, saying, He blasphemes. What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, now you* have heard his blasphemy. 26:66 What do you* think?
They answered and said, He is <37>worthy of death. 26:67 Then they spit in his face and buffet him and some slapped him, 26:68 saying, Prophesy to us, you Christ: who is he who struck you?
26:69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the court and a maidservant came to him, saying, You also was with Jesus the Galilaean.
26:70 But he denied before them all, saying, I do not know what you say. 26:71 And when he had gone out into the porch, another one saw him and says to those who were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.
26:72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
26:73 And after a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, Truly you also are one out of them; for* even your speech makes it evident.
26:74 Then began he to curse and to swear, I do know the man. And immediately the rooster crew. 26:75 And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said to him, Before the rooster crow, you will deny me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
