Gospel According to Matthew (MLV)
Matthew 11)
11:1 And it happened when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.
11:2 Now when John heard the works of the Christ while in the prison, he sent two of his disciples 11:3 and said to him, Are you he who is coming or should we expect another?
11:4 And Jesus answered and said to them, Go and report to John what you* hear and see: 11:5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel proclaimed to them. 11:6 And whoever is not offended by me is blessed.
11:7 And as these went their way, Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you* go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind? 11:8 But what did you* go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in king's houses. 11:9 But why did you* go out? To see a prophet? I say to you* yes and much more than a prophet. 11:10 For* this is he, concerning whom it has been written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, Who will prepare your way before you*.' {Mal. 3.1} 11:11 Truly I say to you*, There has not arisen a greater among those born from women than John the Immerser*. But he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 11:12 And from the days of John the Immerser* until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and violent men sieze it. 11:13 For* all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 11:14 And if you* are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is about to come. 11:15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear. 11:16 But to what shall be similar to this generation? It is similar to children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions 11:17 and saying, We piped to you* and you* did not dance; we grieved FOR you* and you* did not mourn. 11:18 For* John came neither eating nor drinking and they say, He has a demon. 11:19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they say, Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! And wisdom was justified by her children.
11:20 Then he began to reproach the cities in which most of his miracles had happened, because they did not repent. 11:21 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles had happened in Tyre and Sidon which have happened in you*, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 11:22 But I say to you*, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you*. 11:23 And you, Capernaum, who has been exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades: because if the miracles had happened in Sodom which have happened in you, it would have remained until this day. 11:24 But I say to you* that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you*.
11:25 In that season Jesus answered and said, I praise you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to infants: 11:26 yes, Father, because in this manner, it became well-pleasing in your sight. 11:27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father and no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whomever the Son wills to reveal him. 11:28 Come to me, all you* who labor and are loaded down and I will give you* rest. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you* and learn from me; because I am meek and humble in heart and you* will find rest for your* souls. 11:30 For* my yoke is easy and my load is light.
