Gospel According to Matthew  (MLV)

(Matthew 1)

1:1 The book of the <1>generations of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

1:2 To Abraham was born Isaac; and to Isaac was born Jacob; and to Jacob was born Judah and his brethren; 1:3 and to Judah was born Perez and Zerah of Tamar; and to Perez was born Hezron; and to Hezron was born <2>Ram; 1:4 and to Ram was born Amminadab; and to Amminadab was born Nahshon; and to Nahshon was born Salmon; 1:5 and to Salmon was born Boaz of Rahab; and to Boaz was born Obed of Ruth; and to Obed was born Jesse; 1:6 and to Jesse was born David the king.

And to David the king was born Solomon from her who had been the wife of Uriah; 1:7 and to Solomon was born Rehoboam; and to Rehoboam was born Abijah; and to Abijah was born Asa; 1:8 and to Asa was born Jehoshaphat; and to Jehoshaphat was born Joram; and to Joram was born Uzziah; 1:9 and to Uzziah was born Jotham; and to Jotham was born Ahaz; and to Ahaz was born Hezekiah; 1:10 and to Hezekiah was born Manasseh; and to Manasseh was born Amon; and to Amon was born Josiah; 1:11 and to Josiah was born Jechoniah and his brethren, at the time of the Babylonian exile.

1:12 And after the Babylonian exile, to Jechoniah was born Shealtiel; and to Shealtiel was born Zerubbabel; 1:13 and to Zerubbabel was born Abiud; and to Abiud was born Eliakim; and to Eliakim was born Azor; 1:14 and to Azor was born Sadoc; and to Sadoc was born Achim; and to Achim was born Eliud; 1:15 and to Eliud was born Eleazar; and to Eleazar was born Matthan; and to Matthan was born Jacob; 1:16 and to Jacob was born Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called the Christ.

1:17 Therefore all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations; and from David until the Babylonian exile fourteen generations; and from the Babylonian exile until the Christ fourteen generations.

1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this manner: for* when his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with a child of the Holy Spirit. 1:19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not willing to disgrace her publicly, intended to divorce her secretly. 1:20 But when he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take to you, Mary your wife: for* What is <3>conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 1:21 And she will bring forth a son; and you will call his name Jesus; for* it is he who will save his people from their sins. 1:22 Now all this happened, that* it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, 1:23 Behold, the virgin will be with child and will bring forth a son and they will call his name Immanuel; which is, being translated, God with us. {Is. 7:14} 1:24 And Joseph being aroused from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife; 1:25 and did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn son and he called his name JESUS.
