Gospel According to Luke (MLV)
Luke 8)
8:1 And it happened soon afterwards, that he journeyed through all the cities and villages, preaching and bringing the gospel of the kingdom of God and with him the twelve, 8:2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary that was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 8:3 and Joanna the wife of Chuzas, Herod's commissioner and Susanna and many others, who were ministering to them from their substance. 8:4 And when a great crowd came together and those who were coming to him from every city, he spoke by a parable: 8:5 The sower went forth to sow his seed and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trampled down and the birds of the heaven devoured it. 8:6 And other fell on the rock; and when it sprang up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 8:7 And other fell in the midst of the thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8:8 And other fell upon the good ground and sprang up and produced fruit a hundred times over. As he said these things, he cried, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
8:9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 8:10 And he said, To you* it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to the rest in parables; that seeing they may not see and hearing they may not understand. 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 8:12 And those by the way side are those who have heard; then comes the devil and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. 8:13 And those on the rock are those who, when they have heard, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. 8:14 And what fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard and as they go on their way they are choked by cares and riches and sensual-delights of this life and bring no fruit to perfection. 8:15 And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast and bear fruit with patient endurance.
8:16 And no one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or places it under a cot; but places it on a lamp-stand, that those who enter in may see the light. 8:17 For* nothing is hid, that will not become manifest; nor anything secret, that will not be known and come to be manifest. 8:18 Therefore beware how you* hear: for* whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken away from him.
8:19 And there came to him his mother and brethren and they were not able to come to him because of the crowd. 8:20 And it was reported to him, Your mother and your brethren are standing outside, wishing to see you*. 8:21 But he answered and said to them, My mother and my brethren are those who hear the word of God and do it.
8:22 Now it happened on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples; and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they set sail. 8:23 But as they sailed he fell asleep and a storm of wind on the lake came down; and they were filling with water and were in jeopardy. 8:24 And they, having come to him, awoke him, saying, Master, Master! We are perishing. And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the surging of the water and they ceased and it became calm.
8:25 And he said to them, Where is your* faith?
And being afraid they marveled, saying to one another, Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water and they obey him?
8:26 And they sailed down to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. 8:27 And when he had come forth upon the land, a certain man out of the city met him, who had demons; and he had worn no clothes for a long time and did not abide in any house, but lived in the tombs. 8:28 And when he saw Jesus, having cried out, he fell down before him and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg of you*. Do not torment me. 8:29 For* he was commanding the unclean spirit to come out from the man. For* many times it had seized him and he was guarded and bound with chains and shackles; and breaking the bands asunder, he was driven by the demon into the wildernesses.
8:30 And Jesus asked him, What is your name?
And he said, Legion. (Because many demons had entered into him.) 8:31 And he besought him that he would not command them to depart into the abyss. 8:32 Now a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain was there. And he besought him that he might permit them to enter into them. And he permitted them. 8:33 And the demons having gone out from the man, entered into the swine and the herd rushed down the cliff into the lake and were drowned. 8:34 And when those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and reported it in the city and in the rural-area. 8:35 And they went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus and found the man, from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and sober-minded, against the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid. 8:36 And those who saw it reported to them how he who was possessed with demons was cured. 8:37 And all the crowd of the country of the Gerasenes around asked him to depart from them; because they were held by great fear and he entered into a boat and returned. 8:38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out of, was begging to be taken with him: but he dismissed him, saying, 8:39 Return to your house and describe how great things God has done for you*. And he went his way, preaching throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done for him.
8:40 And it happened as Jesus returned, the crowd gladly-received him; for* they were all expecting him. 8:41 And behold, a man named Jairus came and he was a ruler of the synagogue and he fell down against Jesus' feet and besought him to come into his house; 8:42 because he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age and she was dying. But as he went the crowds thronged him.
8:43 And a woman having a flowing of blood twelve years, who had consumed all her livelihood upon physicians and could not be healed by any, 8:44 came behind him and touched the border of his garment and instantly the flowing of her blood stopped. 8:45 And Jesus said, Who is it that touched me?
And when all denied, Peter said and those who were with him, Master, the crowds are pressing against you and are crushing you*.
8:46 But Jesus said, Someone touched me; for* I knew that power had gone forth from me.
8:47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid. She came trembling and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people because of what cause she touched him and how she was healed instantly.
8:48 And he said to her, Have courage daughter, your faith has cured you; go in peace.
8:49 While he yet spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue's house comes, saying, Your daughter is dead; do not bother the Teacher.
8:50 But Jesus hearing it, answered him, Do not fear: only believe and she will be cured. 8:51 And when he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter in with him, except Peter and John and James and the father of the child and her mother. 8:52 And all were weeping and grieving her. But he said, Do not weep; she is not dead, but is sleeping 8:53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 8:54 But he, having put everyone outside and taking hold of her hand, called, saying, Child, arise. 8:55 And her spirit returned and she rose up instantly and he commanded that something be given to her to eat. 8:56 And her parents were astonished: but he commanded them to tell no one what had happened.
