Gospel According to Luke (MLV)
Luke 7)
7:1 After he had fulfilled all his sayings in the ears of the people, he entered into Capernaum. 7:2 And a certain centurion's bondservant, who was precious to him, was ill and about to die. 7:3 And when he heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews; asking him that he would come and save his bondservant. 7:4 And they, when they came to Jesus, besought him diligently, saying, He is worthy that you should do this for him; 7:5 for* he loves* our nation and he built us our synagogue. 7:6 And Jesus went with them. And already when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Lord, do not be bothered; for* I am not worthy that you should come under my roof: 7:7 wherefore neither I myself deemed it worthy to come to you*: but say <12>the word and my manservant will be healed. 7:8 For* I also am a man set under authority, having under myself soldiers and I say to this one, Go and he goes; and to another Come and he comes; and to my bondservant, Do this and he does it. 7:9 And when Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him and turned and said to the crowd that followed him, I say to you*, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 7:10 And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the sick bondservant healthy.
7:11 And it happened on the next day, that he went to a city called Nain; and many of his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 7:12 Now when he drew near to the gate of the city, behold also, one who was dead was carried out, the only begotten son of his mother and she was a widow and many people of the city was with her. 7:13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep. 7:14 And he came near and touched the coffin and the bearers stood-still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, arise. 7:15 And he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. 7:16 And fear took hold on all, and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is arisen among us and, God has visited his people. 7:17 And this word went forth concerning him in the whole area of Judaea and all the region around.
7:18 And the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. 7:19 And John calling to him a certain two of his disciples sent them to the Lord, saying, Are you he who is coming or should we expect another? 7:20 And when the men had come to him, they said, John the Immerser* has sent us to you, saying, Are you he who is coming or should we expect another? 7:21 In that hour he healed many of diseases and disorders and evil spirits; and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. 7:22 And he answered and said to them, Go and report to John the things which you* have seen and heard; the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel proclaimed to them. 7:23 And he is blessed, whoever is not offended in me.
7:24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to say to the crowds concerning John, What did you* go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind? 7:25 But what did you* go out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live delicately, are in king's courts. 7:26 But what did you* go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you* and much more than a prophet. 7:27 This is he concerning whom it has been written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you*. {Mal. 3:1} 7:28 I say to you*, Among those who are born of women there is none greater than John: yet he who is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 7:29 And all the people and the tax-collectors having heard this, justified God, having been immersed* in the immersion* of John. 7:30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, having not been immersed* by him. 7:31 To what then shall be similar to the men of this generation and to what are they similar? 7:32 They are similar to children that sit in the marketplace and call to one another. Who say, We piped to you* and you* did not dance; we mourned and you* did not weep. 7:33 For* John the Immerser* has come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and you* say, He has a demon. 7:34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking; and you* say, Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! 7:35 And wisdom was justified by all her children.
7:36 And one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him. And he having entered into the Pharisee's house, reclined at a meal. 7:37 And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was reclining at a meal in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment, 7:38 and standing behind against his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner. 7:40 And Jesus answering said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you*. And he says, Teacher, say on. 7:41 A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred denarius and the other fifty. 7:42 When they did not have anything to repay him with, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love* him most?
7:43 Simon answered and said, I assume, he to whom he forgave the most.
And he said to him, You have rightly judged. 7:44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has wetted my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 7:45 You gave me no kiss: but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. 7:46 You did not anoint my head with oil: but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 7:47 For which cause, I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; because she loved* greatly: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves* little. 7:48 And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven.
7:49 And those who reclined at the meal with him began to speak with themselves, Who is this that forgives even sins?
7:50 And he said to the woman, Your faith has cured you. Go in peace.
