Gospel According to Luke (MLV)

Luke 22)

22:1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover. 22:2 And the high-priests and the scribes sought how they might kill him; for* they feared the people.

22:3 And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. 22:4 And he went away and spoke with the high-priests and captains, how he might deliver him to them. 22:5 And they rejoiced and agreed to give him silver. 22:6 And he consented and sought opportunity to deliver him to them without the crowd.

22:7 And the day of unleavened bread came on which the Passover must be sacrificed. 22:8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make the Passover ready for us, that we may eat. 22:9 And they said to him, Where do you will that we make it ready? 22:10 And he said to them Behold, when you* have entered into the city, a man bearing a pitcher of water will meet you* there; follow him into the house into which he goes. 22:11 And you* will say to the master of the house, The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest-room, where I will eat the Passover with my disciples? 22:12 And he will show you* a large furnished upper room: prepare it there. 22:13 And they went and found as he had said to them and they prepared the Passover.

22:14 And when the hour came, he reclined and the apostles with him. 22:15 And he said to them, With a great desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you* before I suffer: 22:16 for* I say to you*, I will not eat it, until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. 22:17 And he received a cup and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this and divide it among yourselves: 22:18 for* I say to you*, I will not drink from the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God has come. 22:19 And he took bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given on behalf of you*: do this in my remembrance. 22:20 And likewise he took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, even what is poured out on behalf of you*. 22:21 But behold, the hand of him who is betraying me is with me on the table. 22:22 And the Son of Man indeed is going, as it has been determined: but woe to that man through whom he is delivered up to the Jews! 22:23 And they began to debate together with themselves, which of them was about to this thing.

22:24 And a contention arose also among them, which of them was thought to be the greater. 22:25 And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and those who have authority over them are called the workers of good. 22:26 But you* will not be so: but he who is the greater among you*, let him become as the younger; and he who is leader, as he who serves. 22:27 For* which is greater, he who reclines at the meal or he who serves? Is not he who reclines? But I am in the midst of you* as he who serves. 22:28 But you* are those who have remained with me in my temptations; 22:29 and I covenant to you*, just-as my father covenanted to me a kingdom, 22:30 that you* may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and you* will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

22:31 Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked for you, to sift you like* wheat: 22:32 but I made supplication concerning you, that your faith does not fail; and when you have turned again, establish your brethren.

22:33 And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.

22:34 And he said, I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you will deny knowing me three times.

22:35 And he said to them, When I sent you* forth without purse and wallet and sandals, you* did not lack anything, did you? And they said, Nothing. 22:36 And he said to them, But now, he who has a purse, let him take it and similarly a wallet; and he who has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one. 22:37 For* I say to you*, that this, which has been written must be accomplished in me, 'And he was reckoned with the lawless: for* the things concerning me must have an end.' {Is. 53:12}

22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords.

And he said to them, It is enough. 22:39 And he came out and went, according to his custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him. 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said to them, Pray that you* do not enter into temptation. 22:41 And he parted from them about a stone's cast; and he kneeled down and prayed, 22:42 saying, Father, if you are willing, carry this cup away from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done. 22:43 And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. 22:44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were thick drops of blood falling down upon the ground. 22:45 And when he rose up from his prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 22:46 and said to them, Why do you* sleep? Rise and pray, that you* do not enter into temptation.

22:47 While he yet spoke behold, a crowd and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near to Jesus to kiss him. 22:48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, do you deliver the Son of Man with a kiss?

22:49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we strike with the sword? 22:50 And a certain one out of them struck the bondservant of the high-priest and took off his right ear.

22:51 But Jesus answered and said, Permit this to fulfill scripture. And he touched his ear and healed him. 22:52 And Jesus said to the high-priests and captains of the temple and elders, that had come against him, Have you* come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves? 22:53 When I was with you* daily in the temple, you* did not stretch forth your* hands against me: but this is your* hour and the authority of darkness.

22:54 And they taken him and led him away and brought him into the high-priest's house. But Peter followed afar off. 22:55 And when they had lit a fire in the middle of the court and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them. 22:56 And a certain maidservant seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire and staring at him, said, This man also was with him.

22:57 But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not. 22:58 And after a little while another saw him and said, You also are one out of them.

But Peter said, Man, I am not.

22:59 And after about an one hour interval, then another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for* he is a Galilaean.

22:60 But Peter said, Man, I do not know what you say. And instantly, while he yet spoke the rooster crew. 22:61 And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said to him, Before the rooster crow this day you will deny me three times. 22:62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.

22:63 And the men who held <35>Jesus mocked him and beat him. 22:64 And having covered him, they were beating him on the face, and were asking him, saying, Prophesy: who is it who hit you? 22:65 And they blasphemously spoke many other things to him. 22:66 And as soon as it became day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both high-priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying, 22:67 If you are the Christ, tell us.

But he said to them, If I tell you*, you* will not believe: 22:68 and if I ask you*, you* will not answer, nor release me. 22:69 But from hereafter the Son of Man will be seated from the right hand of the power of God.

22:70 And they all said, Then are you the Son of God?

And he said to them, You* are saying that I am.

22:71 And they said, What further need have we of witness? For* we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.
