Gospel According to Luke (MLV)

Luke 19)

19:1 And he entered and was passing through Jericho. 19:2 And behold, a man called by name Zacchaeus; and he was a chief tax-collector and he was rich. 19:3 And he was seeking to see Jesus-- who he is; and could not for the crowd, because he was small in stature. 19:4 And he ran on before and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: because he was about to pass by that way. 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for* I must abide in your house today. 19:6 And having hurried, he came down and received him rejoicing.

19:7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner.

19:8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor and if I have wrongfully extracted anything from anyone, I repay four times that.

19:9 And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. 19:10 For* the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost.

19:11 And as they heard these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was instantly to appear. 19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 19:13 And he called ten bondservants of his and gave them ten <29a>Minas and said to them, You* trade with this until I come. 19:14 But his citizens hated him and sent an delegation after him, saying, We do not wish that this man reign over us. 19:15 And it happened, when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these bondservants, to whom he had given the silver, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading. 19:16 And the first came before him, saying, Lord, your <29a>mina has made ten <29a>minas more. 19:17 And he said to him, Well done, you good bondservant: because you became faithful in the least matters, you have authority over ten cities. 19:18 And the second came, saying, Your <29a>mina, Lord, has made five <29a>minas. 19:19 And he said to him also, I will let you become leader over five cities. 19:20 And the other bondservant came, saying, Lord, behold, here is your <29a>mina, which I had laid up in a handkerchief: 19:21 for* I feared you, because you are an austere man: you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow. 19:22 He says to him, I will judge you out of your own mouth, you evil bondservant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow; 19:23 then why did you not give my silver into the bank and I having come back might have collected it with interest? 19:24 And he said to those who stood by, Take away from him the <29a>mina and give it to him who has the ten <29a>minas. 19:25 And they said to him, Lord, he has ten <29a>minas. 19:26 I say to you*, that to everyone who has will be given; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away from him. 19:27 But these my enemies, that did not wish that I should reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.

19:28 And when he had spoken these things, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.

19:29 And it happened, when he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, toward the mountain that is called Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 19:30 saying, Go your* way into the village before you*; in which as you* enter you* will find a colt tied, on which <29b>no man has of yet ever sat: loose and bring him. 19:31 And if anyone ask you*, Why do you* loose him? You* will say thus, The Lord has need of him. 19:32 And those who were sent went away and found just-as he had said to them. 19:33 And as they loosed the colt, the owners of it said to them, Why do you* loose the colt?

19:34 And they said, The Lord has need of him. 19:35 And they brought him to Jesus and they, having thrown their garments upon the colt, mounted Jesus upon it. 19:36 And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. 19:37 And as he was already drawing near, even to the slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice concerning all the miracles which they had seen; 19:38 saying, The King that is coming in the name of the Lord is blessed: peace in heaven and glory in the highest.

19:39 And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.

19:40 And he answering, said to them, I say to you* that if these should be silent, then the stones will cry out.

19:41 And when he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, 19:42 saying, If you had known in this day, even you, the things which belong to peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. 19:43 Because the days will come upon you, when your enemies will cast around you bands and surround you and press you on every side, 19:44 and will level you to the ground and your children within you; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another; because you did not know the time of your visitation.

19:45 And he entered into the temple and began to cast out those who bought and sold, 19:46 saying to them, 'It has been written, my house will be a house of prayer: but you* have made it a den of robbers.' {Is. 56:7 & Jer. 7:11} 19:47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the high-priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him: 19:48 and they could not find what they might do; for* the people all hung upon him, listening.
