Gospel According to Luke (MLV)
Luke 16)
16:1 And he said also to the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and this one was indicted by him when he was found wasting his goods. 16:2 And having called him, he said to him, What is this that I hear about you? Render the account of your stewardship; for* you can no longer be a steward. 16:3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do, seeing that my lord takes away the stewardship from me? I do not have strength to dig; I am ashamed to beg. 16:4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 16:5 And calling to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much do you owe to my lord? 16:6 And he said, A hundred 8.5 gallon containers of oil. And he said to him, Take your <25>bond and sit down quickly and write fifty. 16:7 Then he said to another and how much do you owe? And he said, A hundred 10 bushel containers of wheat. He says to him, Take your bond and write eighty. 16:8 And his lord commended the steward of unrighteousness because he had done prudently: because the sons of this world are for their own generation more prudent than the sons of the light.
16:9 And I say to you*, Make to yourselves friends out of the money of unrighteousness; that, when it will fail, they may receive you* into the eternal tabernacles. 16:10 He who is faithful in the least matters is faithful also in much and he who is unrighteous in the least matters is unrighteous also in much. 16:11 If therefore you* have not become faithful in the unrighteous money, who will entrust the true riches to you*? 16:12 And if you* have not become faithful in what is another's, who will give you* what is your* own? 16:13 No servant is able to serve two masters: for* either he will hate the one and love* the other; or else he will hold to one and despise the other. You* are not able to serve God and money.
16:14 And the Pharisees, who were money-lovers, heard all these things; and they scoffed him. 16:15 And he said to them, You* are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knows your* hearts: because what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God. 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the gospel of the kingdom of God is proclaimed and everyone enters violently into it. 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one tittle of the law to fall.
16:18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery and he who marries the one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery. 16:19 Now there was a certain rich man and he was clothed in purple and fine-linen, having been splendidly merry every day: 16:20 and a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, 16:21 and desiring to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. Yes, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 16:22 And it happened, that the beggar died and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom and the rich man also died and was buried. 16:23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments and he sees Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.
16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; because I am in anguish in this flame.
16:25 But Abraham said, Child, remember that you in your lifetime you received your good things and Lazarus similarly evil things: but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish. 16:26 And besides in all things, between us and you*, a great gulf is established, that those who wish to pass from here to you* may not be able and that none may cross over from there to us. 16:27 And he said, I pray of you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house; 16:28 for* I have five brethren; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
16:29 But Abraham says, They have Moses and the prophets. Let them hear them.
16:30 And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one go to them from the dead, they will repent.
16:31 And he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if one rise from the dead.
