Modern Literal Version
[Luke 16]

     16:1 Now he also said to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward, and this one was indicted by him as one squandering his possessions. 16:2And having summoned him, he said to him, What is this that I am hearing concerning you? Give me the account of your stewardship; for* you are not still able to be a steward.

     16:3But the steward said in himself, What should I do*, because my lord is taking away the stewardship from me? I am not strong-enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg. 16:4I have known what I should be doing*, in order that whenever I am removed from the stewardship, they may accept me into their houses.16:5And having called to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How-much do you owe to my lord?

     16:6Now he said, A hundredeight-gallon-containers of oil.

     And he said to him, Accept yourcontract {Greek: writing} and after you have sat down, quickly write fifty.

     16:7Thereafter, he said to a different one, and how-much do you owe?

     Now he said, A hundred twelve-bushel-containers of grain.

     And he says to him, Accept yourcontract{Greek: writing}and write eighty.

     16:8And his lord praised the steward of unrighteousness because he did* prudently, because the sons of this world are more prudent to their own generation; even beyond the sons of the light.

     16:9And I say to you*, Make** friends for yourselves out of the money of unrighteousness; in order that, whenever it fails, they may accept you* into the everlasting tabernacles. 16:10The faithful in the least matters is also faithful in much, and the unrighteous in the least matters is also unrighteous in much.16:11Therefore, if you* did not become faithful in the unrighteous money, who will be entrusting the true riches to you*? 16:12And if you* did not become faithful in what is another's, who will be giving you* what is yours*?16:13No domestic servant is able to serve* two lords; for* either he will hate the one and will love* the other; for* either he will hold to one and despise the other. You* are not able to serve* God and money.

     16:14 Now the Pharisees, who are* money-lovers, were also hearing all these things, and they were ridiculing him. 16:15 And he said to them, You* are those who are making yourselves righteous in the sight of men, but God knows your* hearts, because what is exalted among men isan abomination in God's sight.

     16:16The law and the prophets were until John; from then the good-news of the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and everyone violently-enters into it.16:17But it is easier for the heaven and the earth topass away, than for one serif of the law to fall short.16:18Everyone who divorces his wife and marries a different one is committing adultery, and everyone who marries her who has been divorced from a husband, is committing adultery.{Mat 5:32, 19:9}

     16:19Now there was a certain rich man and he was clothing himself in purple and fine-linen, having been radiantly joyous daily.16:20Now there was a certain poor man, Lazarus by name, who had been put before his gate, having been full of sores, 16:21and desiring to be fully-fed from the falling crumbs of the rich man's table. But even the dogs, coming to him, were licking his sores.16:22 Now it happened for the poor man to die and to be carried away by the messengers into Abraham's bosom, and the rich man also died and was buried.16:23 And he lifted up his eyes in Hades, being* in torments, and he sees Abraham from afar, and Lazarus at his bosoms.

     16:24And having shouted, he said, Father Abraham, show-mercy to me, and send Lazarus in order that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and may cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this flame.

     16:25But Abraham said, Child, remember that you received your good things in your life and Lazarus likewise evil things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish. 16:26And over all these things, a great chasm has been established between us and you*, *that those who wish to cross over from here to you* may not be able, nor may they ferry over from there to us. 16:27But he said, Therefore father, I am requesting him in order that you should send him to my father's house; 16:28for* I have five brethren; *that he may thoroughly testify to them, in order that they may not even come into this place of torment.

     16:29But Abraham says to him, They have Moses and the prophets. Let* them hear them.

     16:30But he said, No, father Abraham, but if someone travels to them from the dead, they will be repenting.

     16:31But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, if someone rises* up from the dead.
