Gospel According to Luke (MLV)

Luke 11)

11:1 And it happened, as he was praying in a certain place, that when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, just-as John also taught his disciples.

11:2 And he said to them, When you* pray, say, Our Father, who is in heaven, sanctify your name. May your kingdom come. May your will be done as in heaven so also upon the earth. 11:3 Give us day by day our <14>needful bread. 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for* we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not bring us into temptation.

11:5 And he said to them, Which of you* will have a friend and will go to him at midnight and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 11:6 since a friend of mine has come to me from a journey and I have nothing to set before him. 11:7 And he will answer from inside and say, Do not bother me: the door is already shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot rise and give you bread. 11:8 I say to you*, though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his insistence he will arise and give him as many as he needs. 11:9 And I say to you*, Ask and it will be given you*; seek and you* will find; knock and it will be opened to you*. 11:10 For* everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11:11 And which of you* who is a father will ask his son for a loaf and he will not give him a stone, will he? Or a fish and he will not give him a serpent for a fish, will he? 11:12 Or if he will ask for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 11:13 If you* then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your* children, how much more will your* heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

11:14 And he was casting out a demon that was dumb. And it happened, when the demon was gone out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled. 11:15 But some of them said, By Beelzebub the prince of the demons he is casting out demons. 11:16 And others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven. 11:17 But he, knowing their minds, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is made desolate; and a house divided against a house falls. 11:18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you* say that I cast out demons by Beelzebub 11:19 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your* sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your* judges. 11:20 But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you*. 11:21 When the fully armed strong man is guarding his own court, his goods are in peace: 11:22 but when a stronger than he will come upon him and overcomes him, he takes away even his armor upon which he had trusted and distributes his spoils. 11:23 He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me scatters. 11:24 The unclean spirit when it has gone out of the man, passes through water less places, seeking rest and finding none, it says, I will turn back to my house from where I came out. 11:25 And when he has come, he finds it swept and garnished. 11:26 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself; and they enter in and dwell there and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.

11:27 And it happened, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the crowd lifted up her voice and said to him, The womb that bore you and the breasts which you nursed are blessed. 11:28 But he said, Yes rather, those who hear the word of God and keep it, are blessed .

11:29 And when the crowds were gathering together to him, he began to say, This generation is an evil generation: it is seeking after a sign; and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. 11:30 For* just-as Jonah became a sign to the Ninivites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation. 11:31 The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and will condemn them: because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, more than Solomon is here. 11:32 The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it: because they repented from the preaching of Jonah; and behold, more than Jonah is here.

11:33 No one, when he has lit a lamp, places it in a cellar, neither under the peck container, but on the lamp-stand, that those who enter in may see the radiance. 11:34 The lamp of your body is your eye: when your eye is single, your whole body also is light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness. 11:35 Look therefore whether the light which is in you, is not darkness. 11:36 If therefore your whole body is light, having no part dark, it will be all light, as when the lamp illuminates you with its rays of light.

11:37 Now as he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him and he having entered, reclined at the table. 11:38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first bathed himself before dinner. 11:39 And the Lord said to him, Now you* the Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter; but the inside of you* is full of extortion and wickedness. 11:40 You* foolish ones, he who made the outside, did he not make the inside also? 11:41 But the things which are in you* those give as alms; and behold, all things are clean to you*. 11:42 But woe to you* Pharisees! Because you* tithe mint and rue and every herb and pass over justice and the love* of God: but these you* ought to have done and not to leave the other undone. 11:43 Woe to you* Pharisees! Because you* love* the chief seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces. 11:44 Woe to you*! Because you* are as the unmarked tombs and the men who walk over them do not know it.

11:45 And one of the lawyers answering says to him, Teacher, you insult us also in saying these things. 11:46 And he said, Woe to you* lawyers also! Because you* load men with unbearable loads and you* yourselves do not touch the loads with one of your* fingers. 11:47 Woe to you*! Because you* build the tombs of the prophets and your* fathers killed them. 11:48 So you* are witnesses and consent to the works of your* fathers: because they indeed killed them and you* build their tombs. 11:49 Therefore also the wisdom of God said, I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and others drive out; 11:50 that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 11:51 from the blood of Abel {Gen. 4:8} to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the House of the Lord . {2 Chr. 24:20-21 (?)} Yes, I say to you*, it will be required of this generation. 11:52 Woe to you* lawyers! Because you* took away the key of knowledge: you* did not enter in yourselves and those who were entering in you* hindered.

11:53 And when he had come out from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon him fearfully and to entice him to speak about more things; 11:54 plotting against him, seeking to trap him in something out of his mouth, that* they might accuse him.

<14> 11:3 OR: our bread for the coming day; OR: our daily bread.
