Gospel According to Luke (MLV)
Luke 10)
10:1 Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them two and two into every city and place before his face, where he himself was about to come. 10:2 And he said to them, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the workers are few: therefore you* make supplication of the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth workers into his harvest. 10:3 Go your* ways; behold, I send you* forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. 10:4 Carry no purse, no wallet, no sandals; and greet no one on the way. 10:5 And into whatever house you* will enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 10:6 And if a son of peace be there, your* peace will rest upon it: but if not, it will return to you*. 10:7 And abide in that same house, eating and drinking such things as they give: for* the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. 10:8 And into whatever city you* enter and they receive you*, eat such things as are set before you*: 10:9 and heal the sick who are in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has come near to you*. 10:10 But into whatever city you* will enter and they do not receive you*, go out into the streets of it and say, 10:11 Even the dust from your* city, that sticks to our feet, we wipe off against you*. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near. 10:12 I say to you*, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. 10:13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the miracles had happened in Tyre and Sidon, which have happened in you*, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 10:14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you*. 10:15 And you, Capernaum, shall you be exalted to heaven? You will go down to Hades. 10:16 He who hears you* hears me; and he who rejects you* rejects me; and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.
10:17 And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name. 10:18 And he said to them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven. 10:19 Behold, I have given you* authority to trample down serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing will in any way hurt you*. 10:20 Nevertheless in this do not rejoice, that the spirits are subject to you*; but rejoice that your* names are written in heaven.
10:21 In that same hour he was glad in the Holy Spirit and said, I praise you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you hid these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to infants. Yes, Father; because in this manner it became well-pleasing in your sight. 10:22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father and no one knows who the Son is, except the Father; and who the Father is, except the Son and he to whomever the Son wills to reveal him. 10:23 And turning to the disciples, he said privately, The eyes which see what you* see are blessed: 10:24 for* I say to you*, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you* see and did not see them; and to hear the things which you* hear and did not hear them.
10:25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
10:26 And he said to him, What is written in the law? How does it read to you?
10:27 And he answering said, 'You will love* the Lord your God <13>with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.' {Dt. 6:5 & Lev. 19:18}
10:28 And he said to him, You have answered right: do this and you will live.
10:29 But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus and who is my neighbor?
10:30 Jesus replying said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and laid wounds on him. They departed, leaving him half dead. 10:31 And by coincidence a certain priest was going down that way and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 10:32 And similarly a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 10:33 But a certain journeying Samaritan came to him and having seen him, was moved with compassion. 10:34 And having come near to him, he bound up his wounds, pouring on them oil and wine; and having mounted him upon his own animal, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 10:35 And on the next day he took out two denarius and gave them to the innkeeper and said, Take care of him; and if you overspend that, I will repay you when I come back again. 10:36 Therefore which one of these three, seems to have been a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?
10:37 And he said, He who had mercy on him.
And Jesus said to him, Go and you do similarly.
10:38 Now it happened as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat against the feet of Jesus and heard his word. 10:40 But Martha was greatly distracted about serving; and she standing by him, said, Lord, do you not care that my sister left me to serve alone? Therefore speak to her that* she may help me.
10:41 But the Lord answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and disturbed about many things: 10:42 but there is need of one thing and Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.
