John 20)

^20:1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene comes early, while it was yet dark, to the tomb and sees the stone taken away from the tomb.^20:2 Therefore she runs and comes to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved* and says to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him.^20:3 Peter therefore went forth and the other disciple and they went toward the tomb.^20:4 And they ran both together and the other disciple ran faster than Peter and came first to the tomb;^20:5 and stooping down and looking in, he sees the linen cloths lying; yet he did not enter in.^20:6 Therefore Simon Peter also comes, following him and entered into the tomb; and he beholds the linen cloths lying,^20:7 and the handkerchief that was upon his head, was not lying with the linen cloths, but was rolled up in a separate place.^20:8 Therefore then the other disciple entered in also, who came first to the tomb and he saw and believed.^20:9 For* as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.^20:10 So the disciples went away again to their own home.

^20:11 But Mary was standing outside at the tomb weeping: so, as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb;^20:12 and she beholds two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.^20:13 And they say to her, Woman, why do you weep?

She says to them, Because they have taken away my Lord and I do not know where they have laid him.^20:14 When she had said these things, she turned herself back and beholds Jesus standing and did not know that it was Jesus.

^20:15 Jesus says to her, Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek?

She, supposing him to be the gardener, says to him, Lord, if you have carried him from here, tell me where you have laid him and I will take him away.

^20:16 Jesus says to her, Mary.

She turning around, says to him in Hebrew, Rabboni; which is to say, Teacher.

^20:17 Jesus says to her, Do not attach yourself to me; for* I have not yet ascended to the Father: but go to my brethren and say to them, I ascend to my Father and your* Father and my God and your* God.

^20:18 Mary Magdalene comes, declaring to the disciples, I have seen the Lord; and that he had said these things to her.

^20:19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, because of fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and says to them, Peace be to you*.^20:20 And when he had said this, he showed to them his hands and his ribs. The disciples therefore rejoiced, when they saw the Lord.^20:21 Jesus therefore said to them again, Peace be to you*: as the Father has sent me, even so send I you*.^20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and says to them, You* receive the Holy Spirit:^20:23 anyone whose sins you* forgive have been forgiven to them; anyone whose sins you* retain have been retained.

^20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called _<7>Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.^20:25 The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord.

But he said to them, Unless I will see the print of the nails in his hands and put my hand into his ribs, I will not believe.

^20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were inside and Thomas with them. Jesus comes, the doors being shut and stood in the midst and said, Peace to you*.^20:27 Then he says to Thomas, Reach your finger here and see my hands; and reach your hand here and put it into my ribs and do not become faithless, but believing.

^20:28 Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God.

^20:29 Jesus says to him, Because you have seen me, you have believed: those who have not seen and yet have believed are blessed.

^20:30 Therefore Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book:^20:31 but these are written, that you* may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you* may have life in his name.
