Modern Literal Version
[John 17]

     17:1 Jesus spoke these things, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, in order that your Son may also glorify you; 17:2just-as you gave him authority over all flesh, in order that to all whom you have given him, he will be giving everlasting life to them.17:3But this is everlasting life, in order that they should know you, the only true God, and Jesus the Christ, whom you sent.17:4I glorified you upon the earth. I completed the work which you have given me, that* I should do*.17:5And now, Father, glorify me with yourself in the glory which I was holding with you before the world is to be.17:6I manifested your name to the men whom you have given me out of the world. They were yours and you have given them to me, and they have kept your word.17:7Now they have known that all things, as many things as you have given me, are from you, 17:8because the words which you have given me I have given to them, and they received them and they truly knew that I came forth from you and they believed that you sent me.

     17:9I am requesting concerning them. I am not requesting concerning the world, but concerning those whom you have given to me, because they are yours. 17:10And all my things are yours and yours are mine and I have been glorified in them.17:11And I am no more in the world and yet these are in the world and I am coming to you.

{Joh 17:11b-17:26 The Lord's Prayer; no parallel.}

     Holy Father, keep them in your name whom you have given me, in order that they may be one, just-as we are one.17:12When I was with them in the world, I was keeping them in your name whom you have given me. I guarded them and not one out of them perished, except the son of destruction; in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 17:13But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world, in order that they may have my joy, having been fulfilled in themselves.17:14I have given them your word, and the world hated them, because they are not from the world, just-as I am not from the world.

     17:15I am not requesting that* you should take them from the world, but in order that you should keep them from the evil one.17:16They are not from the world just-as I am not from the world. 17:17Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth.17:18Just-as you sent me forth into the world, I also sent them forth into the world.17:19And I make myself holy on their behalf, in order that they themselves may also be made holy in truth.

     17:20I am not requesting concerning these only, but concerning those who also believe in me through their word; 17:21in order that they may all be one; just-as you, Father, are in me and I in you; in order that they may also be one in us; in order that the world may believe that you sent me. 17:22And the glory which you have given me I have given to them; in order that they may be one, just-as we are one;17:23I am in them and you are in me, in order that they might be completed into one and the world may know that you sent me and you loved* them, just-as you loved* me.17:24Father, I wish that* they, whom you have given me, may also be with me where I am, in order that they may view my glory, which you gave me, because you loved* me before the conception of the world.17:25Righteous Father, the world did not know you, but I knew you, and these knew that you sent me; 17:26and I made known to them your name and will be making it known; in order that the love* in which you loved* me may be in them and I am in them.
