Modern Literal Version
16:1I have spoken to youĎ these things, in order that youĎ should not be offended. 16:2They will be expelling youĎ from the synagogues. But the hour is coming, that* everyone who kills youĎmay think that he is offering divine service to God.16:3And they will be doing these things toyouĎ, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 16:4But I have spoken these things to youĎ, that* whenever the hour has come, youĎ may remember them, that I spoke them to youĎ. Now I did not say these things to youĎ from the beginning, because I was with youĎ.16:5But now I am going to the one who sent me, and none out of youĎ asks me, Where are you going? 16:6But because I have spoken these things to youĎ, sorrow has filled yourĎ heart. 16:7But I tell youĎ the truth. It is advantageous for youĎ that* I should go away; for* if I do not go away, the Helper* will not be coming to youĎ, but if I travel on, I will be sending him to youĎ.16:8And when* he has come, that one will be convicting the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment.16:9Concerning sin, indeed, because they did not believe in me;16:10concerning righteousness, because I am going to my Father and youĎ view me no more; 16:11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.16:12I still have many things to say to youĎ, but youĎ are not able to bear them now.16:13But whenever that one, the Spirit of the truth, comes, he will be guiding youĎ into all the truth; for* he will not be speaking from himself, but as many things as he may hear, these he will be speaking and he will be reporting to youĎ the things which are to come. 16:14 He will be glorifying me, because he will receive from me and will be proclaiming it to youĎ.16:15All things, as many things as the Father has are mine, because of this, I said, He is receiving from me and will be proclaiming it to youĎ.16:16A little while and youĎ do not view me, and again a little while and youĎ will see me, because I am going to the Father.
16:17 Therefore, some out of his disciples said to one another, What is this thing which he says to us, A little while and youĎ do not view me, and again a little while and youĎ will see me. Also, Because I am going to the Father?
16:18 Therefore they were saying, What is this thing which he says, A little while? We do not know the meaningof what he says.
16:19 Therefore, Jesus knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, Are youĎdebating with one another concerning this thing which I said, A little while and youĎ do not view me, and again, A little while and youĎ will see me?
16:20Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, that youĎ will be weeping and will be mourning, but the world will rejoice. But youĎ will be sorrowful, but yourĎ sorrow will happenleading youĎ to joy. 16:21A woman has sorrow whenever she gives-birth, because her hour has come, but whenever the child is born, she remembers the affliction no more, because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. 16:22And therefore, youĎ now indeed have sorrow, but I will see youĎ again and yourĎ heart will be rejoicing and no one takes yourĎ joy away from youĎ.16:23And in that day youĎ will not be asking me anything. Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, that as many things as youĎ may ask the Father in my name, he will be giving them to youĎ.16:24Until now youĎ have asked nothing in my name. AskĎ and youĎ will receive, in order that yourĎ joy may be fulfilled.
16:25I have spoken these things to youĎ in metaphors, but the hour is coming, when I will no more be speaking to youĎ in metaphors, but will be proclaiming to youĎ frankly concerning the Father. 16:26In that day youĎ will be asking in my name and I do not say to youĎ that I will requestof the Father concerning youĎ;16:27for* the Father himself loves youĎ, because youĎ have loved me and have believed that I came forth from God. 16:28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am traveling on to the Father.
16:29Then his disciples say to him, Behold, now you speak frankly and are not speaking in a metaphor. 16:30 Now we know that you know all things and do not have need that* anyone should ask you. We believe that you came forth from God with this speech.
16:31 Jesus answered them, Do youĎ believe now? 16:32 Behold, the hour is coming and has now come, in order that youĎ might be scattered, each one to his own and youĎ may leave me alone and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.16:33I have spoken to youĎ these things, in order that youĎ may have peace in me. YouĎ have affliction in the world, but haveĎ courage; I have overcome the world.
