Gospel According to John (MLV)
John 16)
16:1 I have spoken to you* these things, that you* should not be offended. 16:2 They will expel you* from the synagogues. Yes, the hour is coming, that everyone who kills you* will think that he is offering service to God. 16:3 And they will do these things, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 16:4 But I have spoken these things to you*, that when their hour has come, you* may remember them, how that I told you*. And I did not say these things to you* from the beginning, because I was with you*. 16:5 But now I go to him who sent me; and none of you* asks me, Where do you go? 16:6 But because I have spoken these things to you*, sorrow has filled your* heart. 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you* the truth. It is advantageous for you* that I go away; for* unless I go away, the Helper will not come to you*; but if I go, I will send him to you*. 16:8 And he, when he has come, will convict the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment: 16:9 concerning sin, because they did not believe in me; 16:10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you* behold me no more; 16:11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. 16:12 I have yet many things to say to you*, but you* cannot bear them now. 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you* into all the truth: for* he will not speak from himself; but whatever things he will hear, these he will speak and he will declare to you* the things that are to come. 16:14 He will glorify me: because he will receive out of mine and will declare it to you*. 16:15 All things whatever the Father has are mine: therefore I said, that he receives of mine and will declare it to you*. 16:16 A little while and you* behold me no more; and again a little while and you* will see me.
16:17 Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, What is this that he says to us, A little while and you* do not behold me; and again a little while and you* will see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? We do not know what he says.
16:19 Jesus knew that they were wishing to ask him and he said to them, Do you* debate with one another concerning this, that I said, A little while and you* behold me not and again a little while and you* will see me? 16:20 Truly, truly, I say to you*, that you* will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice. You* will be sorrowful, but your* sorrow will happen leading to joy. 16:21 A woman when she bring forth a child has sorrow, because her hour has come: but when the child is born, she remembers the anguish no more, because of the joy that a man is born into the world. 16:22 And you* therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you* again and your* heart will rejoice and your* joy no one takes away from you*. 16:23 And in that day you* will ask me no question. Truly, truly, I say to you*, if you* will ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you* in my name. 16:24 Until now you* have asked nothing in my name: ask and you* will receive, that your* joy may be made full.
16:25 I have spoken to you* these things in figures of speech: the hour is coming, when I will no more speak to you* in figures of speech, but will declare to you* plainly about the Father. 16:26 In that day you* will ask in my name and I say not to you*, that I will pray the Father concerning you*; 16:27 for* the Father himself loves you*, because you* have loved me and have believed that I came forth from the Father. 16:28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world: again, I leave the world and go to the Father.
16:29 His disciples say, Behold, now you speak plainly and are not speaking a figure of speech. 16:30 Now we know that you know all things and do not have need that anyone should ask you*: we believe that you came forth from God by this.
16:31 Jesus answered them, Do you* now believe? 16:32 Behold, the hour is coming, yes, has come, that you* will be scattered, every man to his own and will leave me alone and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 16:33 I have spoken to you* these things, that in me you* may have peace. In the world you* have tribulation: but have courage; I have overcome the world.
