Modern Literal Version
[John 16]

16:1I have spoken to you* these things, in order that you* should not be offended. 16:2They will be doing* the expelling of you* from the synagogues. But the hour is coming, that* everyone who has killed you* may think to be offering divine service to God.16:3And they will be doing*these things to you*, because they did not know the Father, nor me. 16:4But I have spoken these things to you*, that* whenever the hour comes, you* may remember them, that I spoke them to you*. Now I did not say these things to you* from the beginning, because I was with you*.16:5But now I am proceeding away to the one who sent me, and none out of you* asks me, Where are you proceeding away to? 16:6But because I have spoken these things to you*, sorrow has filled your*heart. 16:7But I tell you* the truth. It is advantageous for you* that* I should go away; for* if I do not go away, the Helper* will not be coming to you*, but if I travel on, I will be sending him to you*.16:8And when he has come, that one will be convicting the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment.16:9Concerning sin, indeed, because they did not believe in me;16:10concerning righteousness, because I am proceeding away to my Father and you* view me no more; 16:11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.16:12I still have many things to say to you*, but you* are not able to bear them now.16:13But whenever that one, the Spirit of the truth, comes, he will be guiding you* into all the truth; for* he will not be speaking from himself, but as many things as he may hear, these he will be speaking and he will be reporting to you* the things which are coming. 16:14 That one will be glorifying me, because he will receive from me and will be proclaiming it to you*.16:15All things, as many things as the Father has are mine, because of this, I said, He is receiving from me and will be proclaiming it to you*. 16:16A little while and you* do not view me, and again a little whileand you* will see me, because I am proceeding away to the Father.

16:17 Therefore, some out of his disciples said to one another, What is this thing which he says to us, A little while and you* do not view me, and again a little while and you* will see me. Also, Because I am proceeding away to the Father?

16:18 Therefore they were saying, What is this thing which he says, A little while? We do not know the meaningof what he says.

16:19 Therefore, Jesus knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, Are you*debating with one another concerning this thing which I said, A little while and you* do not view me, and again, A little while and you* will see me?

16:20Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to you*, that you* will be weeping and will be mourning, but the world will rejoice. But you* will be sorrowful, but your* sorrow will happen leading you*to joy. 16:21A woman has sorrow whenever she gives-birth, because her hour came. But whenever the child is born, she remembers the affliction no more, because of the joy that a man was born into the world. 16:22And therefore, you* now indeed have sorrow, but I will see you* again and your* heart will be rejoicing and no one takes your* joy away from you*.16:23And you* will not be asking me anything in that day. Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to you*, that as many things as you* would ask the Father in my name, he will be giving them to you*. 16:24Until now you* asked for nothing in my name. Ask* and you* will receive, in order that your* joy may be fulfilled.

16:25I have spoken these things to you* in metaphors, but the hour is coming, when I will no more be speaking to you* in metaphors, but will be proclaiming to you* frankly concerning the Father. 16:26You* will be asking in that day, in my name and I do not say to you* that I will requestof the Father concerning you*;16:27for* the Father himself loves you*, because you* have loved me and have believed that I came forth from God. 16:28 I came out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and I am traveling on to the Father.

16:29Then his disciples say to him, Behold, now you speak frankly and are not speaking in a metaphor. 16:30 Now we know that you know all things and do not have need that* anyone should ask you. In this we believe that you came forth from God with this speech.

16:31 Jesus answered them, Do you* believe now? 16:32 Behold, the hour is coming and has now come, in order that you* might be scattered, each one to his own and you* may leave me alone and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.16:33I have spoken to you* these things, in order that you* may have peace in me. You* have affliction in the world, but have* courage; I have overcome the world.
