Gospel According to John (MLV)

John 13)

13:1 Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that his hour had come that he should depart out of this world to his Father, having loved* his own that were in the world, he loved* them to the end. 13:2 And it happened during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to deliver him, 13:3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands and that he came forth from God and is going to God, 13:4 rises from supper and lays aside his garments; and he took a towel and girded himself. 13:5 Then he pours water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

13:6 So he comes to Simon Peter. He says to him, Lord, do you wash my feet? 13:7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I do you do not know now; but you will understand after this.

13:8 Peter says to him, You will never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.

13:9 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

13:10 Jesus says to him, He who is bathed does not need to wash, other than the feet, but is entirely clean and you* are clean, but not all. 13:11 For* he knew him who should deliver him; therefore he said, You* are not all clean.

13:12 Therefore when he had washed their feet and had taken his garments, he, having reclined again, said to them, You* know what I have done for you*? 13:13 You* call me, Teacher, and, Lord and you* say well; for* so I am. 13:14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your* feet, you* also ought to wash one another's feet. 13:15 For* I gave you* an example, that you* also should do as I have done to you*. 13:16 Truly, truly, I say to you*, a bondservant is not greater than his lord; neither is a messenger greater than he who sent him. 13:17 If you* know these things, you* are blessed if you* do them. 13:18 I do not speak about you* all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled: He who is eating my bread lifted up his heel against me. {Ps. 41:9} 13:19 From now on I tell you* before it happens, that, when it has happened, you* may believe that I am he. 13:20 Truly, truly, I say to you*, he who receives whomever I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me.

13:21 When Jesus had said these things, he was disturbed in the spirit and testified and said, Truly, truly, I say to you*, that one of you* will deliver me.

13:22 Therefore the disciples looked toward one another, perplexed about whom he speaks 13:23 There was one of his disciples reclining on Jesus's bosom, the one whom Jesus loved*. 13:24 Therefore Simon Peter signaled to him to inquire, who it might be, about whom he speaks. 13:25 He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' chest says to him, Lord, who is it?

13:26 Jesus therefore answers, It is he to whom I will dip the morsel and give it to him. So when he had dipped the morsel, he takes and gives it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 13:27 And after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What you do, do quickly. 13:28 Now no one of those reclining at the table knew and to what purpose he spoke this to him. 13:29 For* some thought, since Judas had the bag, that Jesus said to him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. 13:30 He then having received the morsel went out immediately and it was night.

13:31 When therefore he was gone out, Jesus says, Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him; 13:32 and God will glorify him in himself and immediately he will glorify him. 13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you*. You* will seek me and as I said to the Jews, Where I go, you* cannot come; so now I say to you*. 13:34 I give to you* a new commandment, that you* love* one another; just-as I have loved* you*, that you* also love* one another. 13:35 All men will know that you* are my disciples by this, if you* have love* among one another.

13:36 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where are you going? Jesus answered, I go where you cannot follow now; but you will follow afterwards.

13:37 Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow you even now? I will lay down my life on behalf of you*.

13:38 Jesus answers, Shall you lay down your life on behalf of me? Truly, truly, I say to you, The rooster will not crow, until you have denied me three times.
