Gospel According to John (MLV)

John 12)

12:1 Jesus therefore six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead. 12:2 So they made him a supper there and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of those who reclined at the meal with him. 12:3 Mary therefore took a pound ointment of undiluted nard, very precious and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. 12:4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who was about to deliver him, says, 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? 12:6 Now this he said, not because he cared about the poor; but because he was a thief and having the bag took away what was put in it.

12:7 Jesus therefore said, Allow her, that she might keep it FOR the day of my burying. 12:8 For* the poor you* have with you*always; but you* do not have me always.

12:9 A great crowd of the Jews therefore knew that he was there and they came, not because of Jesus only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 12:10 But the high-priests took counsel that they might also kill Lazarus; 12:11 that because of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

12:12 On the next day a great crowd that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 12:13 took the branches of the palm trees and went forth to meet him and cried out, Hosanna: he who is coming in the name of the Lord is blessed, even the King of Israel. 12:14 And Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it; as it has been written, 12:15 'Do not fear, daughter of Zion: behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt.' {Is. 40:9, 62:11, Zech. 9:9} 12:16 His disciples did not understand these things at first: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him and that they had done these things to him. 12:17 The crowd therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, testified. 12:18 Because of this also, the crowd went and met him, because it heard that he had done this sign. 12:19 Therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, Behold how you* profit nothing: behold, the world has gone after him.

12:20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast: 12:21 therefore these came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee and asked him, saying, Lord, we wish to see Jesus. 12:22 Philip comes and speaks to Andrew; and again Andrew and Philip speak to Jesus.

12:23 And Jesus answers them, saying, The hour has come, that* the Son of Man should be glorified. 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you*, Unless a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abides by itself alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 12:25 He who loves his life loses it; and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. 12:26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, my SERVANT will be there also: if anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. 12:27 Now my soul is disturbed; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But because of this I came to this hour. 12:28 Father, glorify your name.

There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.

12:29 The crowd therefore, that stood there and heard it, said, There has been thunder. Others said, An angel has spoken to him.

12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice has not come because of me, but because of you*. 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now the prince of this world will be cast outside. 12:32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself. 12:33 But he said this, signifying by what sort of death, he was about to die.

12:34 The crowd therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abides forever and how do you say, The Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?

12:35 Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while the light is among you*. Walk while you* have the light, that darkness does not overtake you* and he who is walking in the darkness does not know where he is going. 12:36 While you* have the light, believe in the light, that you* may become sons of light.

Jesus spoke these things and he departed and hid himself from them. 12:37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him: 12:38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 12:39 Because of this they were not able to believe, because Isaiah said again, ' 12:40 He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart and should turn and I should heal them.'{Is. 6:9, 10} 12:41 Isaiah said these things, when he saw his glory; and he spoke concerning him. 12:42 Nevertheless even out of the rulers many believed in him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be expelled from the synagogue: 12:43 for* they loved* the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.

12:44 And Jesus cried and said, He who believes in me, does not believe in me, but in him who sent me. 12:45 And he who beholds me beholds him who sent me. 12:46 I have come as a light into the world, that everyone who believes in me may not abide in the darkness. 12:47 And if anyone hears and does not believe my words, I do not judge him: for* I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 12:48 He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings, has one who judges him: the word that I spoke that will judge him in the last day. 12:49 Because I spoke not from myself; but the Father who sent me, he has given me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. 12:50 And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things therefore which I speak, just-as the Father has said to me, so I speak.
