The Acts: Book of Conversions (MLV)

(Acts 1)

1:1 O Theophilus, I made the first account concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach, 1:2 until the day in which he was received up. After that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen: 1:3 To whom he also presented himself alive after he had suffered crucifixion by many proofs, appearing to them through out the forty days and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God. 1:4 And, <1>being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to remain until the promise of the Father, which, he said and, you* heard from me: 1:5 because John indeed immersed* in water; but you* will be immersed* in the Holy Spirit after not many days.

1:6 They therefore, when they had come together, asked him, saying, Lord, do you restore the kingdom to Israel at this time?

1:7 And he said to them, It is not for you* to know times or seasons, which the Father has placed in His own authority. 1:8 But you* will receive power, when the Holy Spirit comes upon you* and you* will be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and Samaria and to the outermost parts of the earth.

1:9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 1:10 And while they were staring as he went into heaven, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 1:11 who also said, You* men of Galilee, why do you* stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was received up from you* into heaven will come thus: in the manner you* beheld him going into heaven.

1:12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called Olives, which is near to Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey off. 1:13 And when they had come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the <2>son of James. 1:14 These all with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brethren.

1:15 And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren and said (and there was a crowd of <3>persons gathered together, about a hundred and twenty), 1:16 Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who took Jesus. 1:17 Because he was numbered among us and received his portion in this service. 1:18 (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his unrighteousness; and it happened as he fell headlong, he burst in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 1:19 And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so-that in their own language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.) 1:20 For* it has been written in the book of Psalms, 'Let his habitation become deserted and do not let anyone dwell in it:' {Ps. 69.25} and, 'His office let another take.' {Ps. 109:8} 1:21 Therefore of the men who have accompanied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us, 1:22 beginning from the immersion* of John, to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection. 1:23 And they stood two up, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus and Matthias. 1:24 And they praying, said, You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one out of these two you have chosen 1:25 to receive the portion of this service and apostleship from which Judas transgressed, so as to go on to his own place. 1:26 And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
