“PROVOKING THE LORD TO JEALOUSY"
I Cor. 10:22 

Introduction: Jealousy may be one of two kinds Cain's jealousy was of the Wicked One. 1 John 3:12 Paul's jealousy was a godly jealousy. 2 Cor. 11:2 

I. GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD 

1. He said so. Ex. 20:5. (Idol calf. Ex. 32:10)  2. Moses and Aaron at Zin. Num. 20:1-13  3. "Because you did not sanctified me." Dent. 32:51  4. We may provoke Him to jealousy. I Cor. 10:22 II. RELYING UPON OUR OWN STRENGTH, WISDOM  1. "Are we stronger than He?" Text. Also I Cor. 1:25  2. Paul's strength was in Christ. Ph. 4:13;2 Cor. 12:9  3. Jesus prayed for Peter's strength. Lu. 22:31,32  4. "Yea tho I walk-Thou art with me." Psalms 23:4 III. TREADING HIS SON UNDERFOOT  1. Hebrews of early church did so. Heb. 10:28  2. They preferred Moses. Gal. 3:24-27  3. Seventh-Day Adventists do same now  4. We, too, are guilty unless we put Jesus first IV. LEGISLATING IN HIS STEAD  1. Usurped authority is always provoking. (Ask some one who has seen a would-be boss over at the shop.)  2. All authority is His. Matt. 28:18.Pope has no right to legislate. Nor has anyone else!  3. His word is sufficient. 2 Tim. 3:16,17. Man-made creeds in opposition to truth  4. Man cannot direct his own way. Jer. 10:23 V. HONORING MEN INSTEAD OF HIS SON  1. "This is My beloved Son." Matt. 17:5  2. He must be given pre-eminence. Col. 1:18  3. Men often honor preachers, eminent scholars, instead of Jesus and plain teachings of His word  4. Men often honor lodges, grange and other worldly institutions instead of blood-bought church VI. NEGLECTING OUR SALVATION 1. Looks as though we love evil more than righteousness  2.
