“THE PARABLE OF THE MARRIAGE FEAST"
Matt. 22:1-14
Introduction: Jesus always used things common to the Jew in order to
illustrate his great lessons. The marriage feast was a common custom
I. THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
1. Excellent provisions. Eph. 1:3;2 Pet. 1:3
2. Abundant supply. Rev. 22:17
II. THE KING SENDS THE INVITATIONS
1. By his servants. Matt. 22:3; 28:20
2. King does not go in person!
3. Apostles were ambassadors for King Jesus. 2 Cor. 5:20
4. Earthen vessels. 2 Cor. 4:7; Acts 9:15
5. Faithful men. 2 Tim. 2:2; Rev. 22:17
III. THE KING IS ANGERED
1. Because they made light of His invitation. vs. 7
2. Always some who mock. Examples: Lot, Noah, Jesus
3. Because they mistreated servants. (Prophets)
4. Ordered them destroyed. Vs. 7
5. Rejection of Christ and destruction of Jewish nation
IV. THE MAN WITHOUT A WEDDING GARMENT
1. Wedding accomplished despite opposition and jeers
2. "King came in to see the guests."
3. Found one improperly dressed
4. Not dressed as others. Acts 2:38; Matt. 7:21
5. Preferred one of own choice perhaps. Jer. 10:23
6. Too late to change after King arrived. Heb. 3:7
7. Impossible to borrow. Matt. 25:8,9
8. He was speechless. No hope. Matt. 7:21,22,23
CONCLUSION We must not speak lightly of salvation, nor of those who faithfully
preach it. We must be properly prepared for the Feast if we are to enjoy
it. We must be properly clothed when the King comes to look us over. Now
is the time to "put on Christ." Otherwise we shall be speechless.
