Introduction: Our search for the New Testament church limits us to what
we can learn about the one mentioned in the New Testament. Not interested
in one not mentioned in the New Testament. Nor shall we study the Old Testament
to learn about the New Testament church
I. NEW TESTAMENT NAMES FOR THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
1. Church of God. I Cor. 1:2; Acts 20:28
2. General Assembly. Heb. 12:23
3. House of God. I Tim. 3:15
4. Body of Christ. Col. 1:18; Eph. 1:23;5:23
5. Bride of Christ. Rom. 7:4; Eph. 5:23
6. Church of Christ. Matt. 16:18; Rom. 16:16
II. CREED OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
1. Oracles of God. 1 Pet. 4:11
2. Holy Scriptures. 2 Tim. 3:16,17
3. Word of God. 2 Tim. 4:1,2
III. WORSHIP OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
1. Met to break bread on first day of week. Ac. 20:7
2. Laid by as prospered on same day. I Cor. 16:1,2
3. Worship consisted of teaching, singing, praying, Lord's Supper
and contribution
4. Worship was fervent and without formality
5. No special singing, choirs, hired talent
6. Had all things common. Continued steadfastly
IV. MANNER OF SUPPORTING THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
1. Weekly contribution. 1 Cor. 16:1,2
2. Nothing of necessity. 2 Cor. 9:7
3. Personal sacrifices. Acts 4:34-37; Phil. 4:18
V. MUSIC OF THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
1. Singing only. Col. 3:16; Eph. 5:19
2. Not concerned about Old Testament worship
