Question:

I have had an abortion and committed adultery as a Christian.  My understanding, while reading your information on the sins that lead to death, is that I see no way I could be forgiven. Am I reading it right?  Please help me with this.

Answer:

No, you are not reading the article "A Sin Leading to Death" correctly. In that article, I stated:

"Not every sin committed ultimately leads to death. When we sin and then repent (turn away from those sins), we will no longer be heading towards death (Galatians 6:1). Similarly, when we see ourselves in sin and are willing to acknowledge our wrong-doing before God, then we will no longer be heading towards death (I John 1:8-2:2). If we recognize our faults and pray to God for forgiveness, He will remove our sin (James 5:15-16; Hebrews 8:10-12)."

You did sin and I'm guessing that you did so knowing it was wrong but choosing to sin anyway. The question is not what have you done in the past, but what will you do with your future? Have your repented of your sins? (II Corinthians 7:9-11). Are you now against abortion and adultery? Have you stopped committing adultery? Have you gone to God in prayer confessing your sins and asking for forgiveness? (I John 1:8-9). If so God promises forgiveness of your sins if you are a Christian, and God always keeps His promises.

I have repented and thank you for helping me understand. I was definitely in torment regarding my salvation and if I was forgiven. May God bless you in every way.
