I. The memorial. Verses 1-24 

A. This was the nature of that memorial. Verses 1-6  1. The twelve stones would symbolize great truth. Verses 1-6  2. The New Testament church is our essence of great truth. Matt. 16:13-18  B. This was the purpose of that memorial. Verse 7  1. It would remain the Israelites of the great power of God. Verse 7  2. The Lord's supper is our memorial of the great power of God. 1 Cor. 11:23-29, 1 Cor. 15:1-4  C. This was the essentials for that memorial. Verses 8-18  1. The Israelites had to obey the laws of God. Verses 8-18  2. We must obey the laws of God. Eph. 2:19-22  D. This was the proof of that memorial. Verses 19-24  1. The Israelites were living witnesses that God had delivered them from slavery. I. The covenant of God. Verses 1-9 

A. This was the source of that covenant. Verse 1  1. The Lord was the source of the law of Moses. Verse 1  2. The Lord is the source of the law of Christ. Heb. 8:6-13  B. This was the entrance into that covenant. Verses 2-6  1. The Israelites had to be circumcised. Verses 2-6  2. We must be baptized into Christ. Gal. 3:27, Romans 6:2-6  C. Verse 13  1. Joshua asked, "Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?" Verse 13  2. We could ask, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? Romans 8:31  a). I. The sin of Achan. Verses 1-26 

A. This was the reality of his sin. Verse 1  1. Achan transgressed the law of God. Verse 1  2. We have transgressed the law of God. Romans 3:23  B. This was the effects of his sin.  1. It brought about a defeat for Israel. VS 2-5  2. It brings about a sorrow for the people of God. 3 John 3  C. This was the concern of his sin. VS 6-15  1. It caused concern to the leader of Israel. I. The fall of Ai. Verses 1-29

I. The battle at the waters of Merom. Verses 1-9 

A. This was the nature of this battle.  1. It was planned rebellion against God. Verses 1-5  2. We can plan rebellion against God. Psa. 10:4-11  B. This was the encouragement for this battle.  1. The Lord would give Israel a victory. Verse 6  2. The Lord will give us a victory. 1 Cor. 15:57, Romans 8:37, Phil. 4:13  C. This was the effect of this battle.  1. The enemies of god was conquered. Verses 7-9  2. We can overcome the powers of sin. 1 Cor. 10:13, 2 Peter 3:9 II. The battle of Hazor. Verses 10-14  A. This was the reason for the battle.  1. It was time to destroy that wicked city. Verse 10  2. There will come a time for the sinners to be judged. Heb. 9:27  B. This was the effects of that battle.  1. The wicked was punished. Verses 11-14  2. The wicked will be punished. Gal. 6:6-9 III. The work of Joshua. Verses 15-23  A. This was the reason for his work.  1. Joshua was commanded by the Lord. Verses 15  2. We are commanded by the Lord. Phil. 2:12  B. I. The conquest of Moses. Verses 1-6

The Lord delivered Israel from oppression. Verses 5-7, 1 Peter 5:10  2. The Lord protected the Israelites from evil intentions. Verses 8-10, 1 Cor. 10:13  3. The Lord gave the Israelites the land of Canaan for an inheritance. Verses 11-13, Matt. 6:33, Phil. 4:19 II. Serving the Lord. Verses 14-28  A. This is the challenge to serve the Lord. Verses 14-15  1. This was a great challenge for the Israelites. Verses 14-15  2. We have a great challenge to serve the Lord. Matt. 6:24  B. This was the need to serve the Lord. Verses 16-18  1. The Israelites realized that they needed to serve the Lord. Verses 16-18  2. We should realize that we need to serve the Lord. Romans 6:16-18  C. This was the reasons for serving the Lord. Verses 19-20  1. The Lord would punish the Israelites for their rebellion. Verses 19-20  2. The Lord will punish us for our rebellions. Gal. 6:6-9  D. This was the essentials for serving the Lord.
