CHAPTER 8 

I. JESUS IS OUR HIGH PRIEST: VS 1-5 

A. These are the exaltations of His Priesthood. vs 1-2  1. The Priesthood of Christ is in heaven. v 1, John 14:1-3  2. The Priesthood of Christ is in the true tabernacle. v 2 , Col. 3:1-4  B. This is the reason for His Priesthood. v 3 (The Priesthood of Christ offers freedom from our sins.) John 1:29  C. I. THE JEWISH TABERNACLE: VS 1-5 

A. This was the authority for that tabernacle. v 1 (The First Covenant ordained the Jewish tabernacle.)  B. This was the nature of that tabernacle. v 1 (That tabernacle was a worldly sanctuary.) Exod. 25:10-40  C. These were the structures of that tabernacle. vs 2-5  1. The first room of that tabernacle was called the Holy Place. v 2, Lev. 24:5-6  2. The second room of that tabernacle was called the Holiest of all. vs 3-5, Exod. 26:31-33 II. THE WORSHIP OF THE JEWISH TABERNACLE: VS 6-10  A. These were the services of that worship. vs 6-7  1. The priests offered acts of worship each day in the Holy Place. v 6  2. The high Priest offered an act of worship once each year in the most Holiest Place. v 7, Lev. 16:15  B. These are the purposes of the church. vs 13-14  1. The saved persons are added to this church. vs 13-14, Acts 2:47  2. The saved persons are to serve God in this church. v 14, Acts 20:28-35 IV. THE NEW TESTAMENT: VS 15-24  A. These are the blessings of the New Testament. v 15  1. Jesus is the Mediator of the New Testament. 1 John 2:1-2  2. Jesus offers redemption for all the faithful persons who were under the Old Testament, and for all the faithful persons who are under the New Testament. Eph. 1:7  B. These are the causes of the New Testament. vs 16-17  1. Jesus died for the New Covenant. v 16, Matt. 26:28  2. Jesus sealed the New Covenant by His death. v 17, 1 Peter 2:24-25  C. This is the evidence of the New Testament. vs 18-24  1. The Old Testament was established by blood. vs 18-22, Exod. 24:6-8  2. The New Testament was established by blood. vs 23-24, 1 Cor. 15:1-4 V. THE REIGN OF CHRIST: VS 25-28  A. These are the causes for His Reign. vs 25-26  1. Jesus became our High Priest. v 25, Heb. 4:14-16  2. Jesus sacrificed Himself for our sins. v 26, 1 Cor. 15:1-4  B. These are the purposes of His Reign. v 27  1. The reign of Christ makes us accountable for our sins. Romans 5:12  2. The reign of Christ makes us subject to His judgment. Heb 2:1-4  C. These are the effects of His Reign. v 28  1. The first coming of Christ was to be our sin bearer. v 28, Luke 19:10  2. The second coming of Christ will be to judge the world in righteousness. 2 Cor. 5:10 CHAPTER 10 

I. THE LAW OF MOSES: VS 1-4 

A. These were the purposes of the law. v 1  1. The law of Moses was a rude outline of the coming law of Christ. v 1  2. The law of Moses was not the image of the coming law of Christ. v 1, Gal. 3:17-25  B. This was the reason for the law. v 2 (The law of Moses made the worshiper conscience of his sins.) Romans 7:7- 11  C. These were the insufficiencies of the law. vs 3-4  1. The law of Moses could not make the sinner free of his sins. vs 3-5  2. The law of Moses was a yoke of bondage for the worshiper. Gal. 5:1-4 II. THE PHYSICAL BODY OF JESUS: VS 5-10  A. This was the reality of His physical body. v 5  1. Jesus (who was the Word in heaven) was given a physical body at His Incarnation upon the earth. John 1:1-3,14  2. Jesus was born of the virgin: Mary. Matt. 1:18-24  3. The Incarnation of Jesus in the flesh fulfilled the promises that God had made to Abraham. Gen. 12:1-3, Gal. 4:4-7  B. These were the purposes of His physical body. vs 6-7  1. The body of an animal was being offered for sins, but that offering could not take away the sins of the world because the animal could not sin. v 6  2. The physical body of Jesus would be tempted to sin. v 7, Psa. 40:6-8  C. These are the reasons for His physical body. vs 8-9  1. The fleshly body of Jesus was made subject to every temptation of the flesh. Matt. 4:1-11  2. Jesus in His physical body conquered the powers of sin in the flesh. 1 John 3:8  D. These are the effects of His fleshly body. v 10  1. The sinless fleshly body of Jesus was offered as a sacrifice for our sins. John 1:29  2. The physical body of Jesus did bear our sins on the cross. 1 Peter 2:22- 24 III. THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS: VS 11-18  A. These were the purposes for His sacrifice. vs 11-13  1. The sacrifice of Jesus was greater than any other sacrifice. v 11, John 15:13  2. The sacrifice of Jesus was for the atonement of our sins. v 12, Romans 5:5-8  3. The sacrifice of Jesus will ultimately destroy all phrases of sin. v 13, Psa. 110:1, 1 Cor. 15:24-28  B. These are the effects of His sacrifice. v 14  1. Christ has made the Christian to be perfect. Heb. 2:10  2. Christ has sanctified the disciple from the world. Heb. 2:11, Col. 1:13-14  C. These are the evidences of His sacrifice. vs 15-18  1. The Holy Spirit proves the sacrifice of Christ. v 15, Romans 8:9-10  2. The life of a dedicated Christian confirms the sacrifice of Christ. v 16, 1 Peter 2:21  3. The pure conscience of a saint affirms the sacrifice of Christ. vs 17-18, Heb. 10:22 IV. THE PURITY OF LIFE: VS 19-25  A. These are the causes for that purity of life. vs 19-21  1. The blood of Christ creates that purity. v 19, Acts 22:16  2. Our being redeemed in Christ engenderes that purity. v 20, 2 Cor. 5:17  3. The Priesthood of Christ produces that purity. v 21, Heb. 2:17-18  B. These are the ways to achieve that purity of life. v 22  1. The purity of life is achieved by a full assurance of faith. Heb. 11:6  2. The purity of life is obtained by a confession of faith. Romans 10:9-10  3. The purity of life is reached by repentance of sins. Acts 17:30-31  4. The purity of life is attained by being baptized into Christ. 1 Peter 3:20-21  C. These are the reasons for that purity of life. v 23  1. The Lord has promised to make us pure. 1 Cor. 10:13  2. The Lord can not break His promises. 2 Peter 2:9  D. These are the proofs for that purity of life. v 23  1. Christians verify their purity of life by working for God. v 24, Phil. 2:13  2. Saints confirm their purity of life by worshipping God. v 25, John 4:24 V. THE APOSTASY: VS 26-31  A. These are the causes of that apostasy. v 26  1. The apostasy is provoked by refusing to obey the known truth. James 4:17  2. The apostasy is produced by not being faithful unto the Lord. Rev. 2:10  B. These will be the results of that apostasy. vs 27-28  1. The apostates will be judged. v 27, Acts 17:30-31  2. The apostates will be punished. v 28, Rev. 20:10  C. These are the effects of that apostasy. v 29  1. That apostasy causes a person to trample under foot the Son of God. John 12:48  2. That apostasy makes a person to profane the blood of the sanctified Covenant. Matt. 10:34-35  3. That apostasy entices a person to insult the Holy Spirit. Eph. 1:13-14  D. These are the cures for that apostasy. vs 30-31  1. Christians must learn that vengeance belongs unto the Lord. Romans 12:19  2. Saints should know that the Lord will recompense His people. 2 Cor. 5:10  3. Disciples need to understand that the Lord will judge His people. Heb. 2:1-3 VI. OUR ENDURANCE: VS 32-39  A. These are the motivations for our endurance. vs 32-34  1. Christians should remember their former endurance. vs 32-33, James 1:12  2. Disciples need to remember their reward in heaven. v 34, John 14:1-3  B. These are the ways to achieve our endurance. v 35  1. Christians should rely upon the Lord for help. Isa. 41:10  2. Saints need to have more confidence in Christ. Phil. 4:13  C. These are the reasons for our endurance. vs 37-38  1. Christians need to receive the promises of eternal life. v 36, Romans 2:7  2. Disciples must be faithful at the second coming of Christ. v 37, 2 Peter 3:10-12  D. These are the effects of our endurance. vs 38-39  1. The endurance of a Christian would please the Lord. v 38, Rev. 3:12  2. Our endurance in being a disciple would save our soul. v 39, Rev. 2:10 CHAPTER 11 

I. HAVING THE PROPER FAITH IN GOD: VS 1-3,6 

A. These are the characteristics of faith. v 1 I. Faith stands under our hope. Heb. 6:19  2. Faith gives us a living hope. 1 Peter 1:3-5  B. These are the effects of faith. v 1  1. Faith will causes us to believe in spiritual things. 2 Cor. 5:7, 2 Cor. 4:16- 18  2. Faith will motivates us so that we will learn the existence of spiritual things. Romans 10:17, Romans 1:20  C. These are the reasons for faith. v 2  1. Faith will bring unto us the Divine favors from God. Romans 8:28  2. Faith will give unto us a good report from God. Matt. 25:41  D. These are the purposes of faith. v 3  1. Faith gives us an understanding of God's creation. v 3, Acts 17:24-31  2. Faith gives us a understanding of life and immortality. v 3, 2 Tim. 1:10 E. These are the needs for faith. v 6  1. Christians must believe that God lives. Acts 17:28  2. Disciples must believe that God keeps His promises. 2 Peter 3:9 II. THE EXAMPLE OF ABEL: V 4  A. This was the motivation of his life. v 4  1. Abel walked by faith. Gen. 4:3-10  2. Christians should walk by faith. 2 Cor. 5:7  B. This was the obedience of his life. v 4  1. Abel offered unto God the proper sacrifice.  2. Christians should offer unto God the proper sacrifice. 1 Peter 2:5  C. This was the security of his life. v 4  1. Abel obtained a favorable faith in God.  2. Disciples can obtain a favorable faith in God. 2 Peter 1:1  D. This is the influence of his life. v 4  1. Abel is speaking by the example which he left behind.  2. Christians can speak through the examples which they leave behind. Rev. 14:13 III. THE EXAMPLE OF ENOCH: V 5  A. This was the motivation of his life. v 5  1. Enoch walked by faith. Gen. 5:22-25  2. Disciples should walk by faith. Gal. 6:5  B. This was the blessing of his life. v 5  1. Enoch was translated so that he did not die in a physical way.  2. Christians could be translated so that they would not die in a physical way. 1 Cor. 15:50-57  C. This was the result of his life. v 5  1. Enoch pleased God.  2. Disciples can please God. James 4:7-8 IV. THE EXAMPLE OF NOAH: V 7  A. This was the motivation of his life.  1. Noah walked by faith. v 7, Gen. 6:12-22  2. Saints should live by faith. 1 John 5:4  B. This was the obedience of his life. v 7  1. Noah obeyed God.  2. Christians should obey God. Eccles. 12:13-14  C. This was the value of his life. v 7  1. Noah save his family.  2. Disciples can save their family. Eph. 6:1-4  D. This was the influence of his life. v 7  1. Noah condemned the world.  2. Christians can condemn the sinful world by the way which they live upon the earth. Romans 6:12-13  E. This was the effect of his life. v 7  1. Noah became an heir of righteousness.  2. Disciples can become an heir of righteousness. 2 Tim. 4:6-8 V. THE EXAMPLE OF ABRAHAM: VS 8-10  A. This was the motivation of his life. v 8  1. Abraham lived by faith. Gen. 12:1-8  2. Christians should live by faith. Heb. 11:6, Mark 9:23, James 2:18-20  B. This was the success of his life. v 8,  1. Abraham obeyed God.  2. Disciples must obey God. Col. 1:13-14, 2 Cor. 6:17-18  C. This was the nature of his life. v 9  1. Abraham sojourned in a strange land.  2. Saints are sojourners in a strange country. 1 Peter 2:11  D. This was the stability of his life. v 10  1. Abraham looked for that Heavenly City.  2. Disciples should look that Heavenly City. John 14:1-3 VI. THE EXAMPLE OF THE PATRIARCHS: VS 11-16  A. These were the motivations of their lives. 11-12  1. Those Patriarchs walked by faith. v 11, Mark 9:23, Heb. 11:6  2. Those Patriarchs believe the promises of God. v 12, 1 John 2:25  B. These were the characteristics of their lives. v 13  1. Those Patriarchs died in faith. v 13, Rev. 14:13  2. Those Patriarchs embraced the promises of God. v 13, 2 Peter 1:4  3. Those Patriarchs confessed their earthly pilgrimage. v 13, 1 Peter 2:11  C. These were the purposes of their lives. vs 14-16  1. Those Patriarchs were seeking an heavenly country. vs 14-15, Luke 9:61-62  2. Those Patriarchs were desiring an heavenly country. v 16, Rev. 21:1-4 VII. THE EXAMPLE OF ABRAHAM AND ISAAC: VS 17-19  A. This was the motivation of his life: "Faith. v 17, Gen. 22:1-10  B. This was the obedience of his life: Offered." vs 17-18  C. This was the success of his life: "Accounting that God was able." v 19 VIII. THE EXAMPLES OF ISAAC AND JOSEPH: VS 20-21  A. By faith: Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau. v 20  B. X. THE EXAMPLE OF MOSES: VS 24-27 

A. These were the choices of his life. v 24  1. Moses walked by faith. v 24, Gal. 5:6  2. Moses wanted to serve the living God. v 24, Romans 6:16-18  B. This was the purpose of his life. v 24  1. Moses did not want to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season.  2. Christians should make the same choice in life. Romans 6:23  C. This was the success of his life. v 26  1. Moses wanted the reward of eternal life.  2. Christians should desire the reward of eternal life. Romans 2:7, 1 Tim. 6:15-16  D. This was the stability of his life. v 27  1. Moses feared God more than he feared man.  2. Christians should fear God more than they fear man. Matt. 10:28 XI. THE EXAMPLES OF THESE FAITHFUL PEOPLE: VS 28-30  A. This was the faith of Israel under Moses. vs 28-29  1. The Israelites kept the Passover . v 28  2. The Israelites passed through the Red sea. v 29  B. This was the faith of Israel under Joshua. v 30 (The Israelites captures the city of Jericho.)  C. This was the faith of Rahab. v 31 (Rahab did not perish in Jericho.) XII. THE EXAMPLE OF OTHER FAITHFUL PEOPLE: VS 31-40  A. Those Patriarchs were motivated by faith. vs 32-33, Gal. 5:6  B. Those Patriarchs overcame great conflicts. v 34, Romans 8:37  C. Those Patriarchs wanted to obtain a better resurrection. v 35, 1 Tim. 1:10  D. Those Patriarchs overcame great temptations. vs 35-37, James 1:2-4  E. I. THE CHRISTIAN RACE VS 1-3 

A. These are the motivations for that race. v 1  1. Those persons who are on earth are watching us. Matt. 4:16  2. Those disembodied spirits who are in paradise are watching us. Heb. 12:22  B. These are the preparations for that race. v 1  1. Christians must cast aside all manner of sin. Romans 6:12  2. Saints ought to put aside their favorite sin. James 2:10  C. These are the essentials for that race. v 1  1. This race should be run with patient. James 1:12  2. Christians must endure unto the end. Rev. 2:10  D. These are the achievements of that race. vs 2-3  1. This race is achieved by looking unto Jesus. v 2, Col. 3:1-4  2. This race is attained by following the examples of Christ. v 3, 1 Peter 2:21 II. OUR DIVINE DISCIPLINE: VS 4-11  A. This is the cause for that Divine discipline. v 4 (Sin causes us to be disciplined.) Romans 3:10,23  B. These are the assurances of that Divine Discipline. vs 5-6  1. Christians will be rebuked by the Lord. v 5, Prov. 3:11  2. Disciples will be corrected by the Lord. v 6, Prov. 3:12  C. These are the reasons for that Divine discipline. vs 7-10  1. The Lord is dealing with us in being His sons. vs 7-8, l John 3:1-3  2. The Lord wants us to find the fulfillment of this life. v 9, John 10:10  3. The Lord desires that we become a partakers of His holiness. v 10, 1 Peter 1:14-15  D. These are the effects of that Divine discipline. v 11  1. When Divine discipline is endured, it seem painful and grievous to the person who is disciplined. v 11, 1 Peter 4:12  2. When Divine discipline is accomplished, it brings the peaceable fruits of righteousness unto those persons who are trained by it. v 11, 1 Peter 5:10 III. OUR BIRTHRIGHT: VS 12-17  A. These are the perfections of our birthright. vs 12-13  1. Our birthright is perfected because we have been born again. John 3:1-7  2. Our birthright is perfected by prayer. v 12, James 5:12  a). Prayers are good for drooping hands. 1 Tim. 2:8  b). Prayers are good for feeble knees. Eph. 3:14  3. Our birthright is perfected by a trusting faith. v 13 (A trusting faith in God is good for wondering feet.) 2 Cor. 5:7, Phil. 4:13  B. These are the requirements for our birthright. v 14  1. Christians must pursue peace. v 14, 1 Peter 3:10-11  2. Disciples should follow after holiness. v 14, 1 Peter 1:15-16  C. This is the hinderance for our birthright. v 15 (The root of bitterness will hinder our birthright.) Heb. 3:12  D. These are the values of our birthright. v 16  1. Our birthright is more valuable than sexual vice. v 16, 1 Cor. 6:18  2. Our birthright is more precious than a single meal. v 16, Matt. 16:24  E. These are the effects of our birthright. v 17  1. If we sell out to the devil, we will weep. v 17, Matt. 8:11-12  2. If don't sell out to the devil, we will rejoice. Romans 8:18 IV. THE NEW COVENANT: VS 18-29  A. These are the traits of the New Covenant. vs 18-24  1. The New Covenant is not a carnal covenant. vs 18-21, Eph. 1:3  2. The New Covenant is a spiritual covenant. vs 22-24, Acts 2:41-47  B. These are the commandments for the New Covenant. vs 25-27  1. Disciples should not obey the laws of the Old Covenant. v 25, Col. 2:14  2. Christians must obey the law of the New Covenant. vs 26-27, James 2:10  C. These are the blessings of the New Covenant. vs 28-29  1. Christians are citizens of a Spiritual Kingdom. v 28, John 18:36, Matt 16:13-18  2. Disciples can serve God acceptably. vs 28-29, 1 Peter 3:15 CHAPTER 13 

I. THE BROTHERHOOD OF CHRIST: VS 1-7 

A. These are the characteristics for that brotherhood. vs 1-3  1. The brotherhood of Christ has love. v 1, 1 Peter 1:22  2. The brotherhood of Christ demonstrates hospitality. v 2, Matt. 25:35-40 3. The brotherhood of Christ possesses compassion. v 3, 1 Peter 3:8  B. These are the structures of that brotherhood. v 4  1. The Christian home is the fabric of any society. Eph. 6:1-4  2. Polygamy will destroy any great culture. Prov. 14:34  C. These are the powers of that brotherhood. vs 5-6  1. The Lord will never forsake us. v 5, Josh. 1:5  2. The Lord will help us. v 6, Phil. 4:13  D. These are the essentials for that brotherhood. v 7  1. Disciples must follow the faithful examples of the elders. v 7, 1 Peter 5:3  2. Christians must follow the faithful examples of other Christians. v 7, 1 Cor. 11:1 II. THE STEADFASTNESS OF OUR FAITH: VS 8-16  A. These are the reasons for our steadfastness of faith. vs 8-9  1. The law of Christ will never change. v 8, Heb. 1:1-3  2. The heart of man can be established by the truth. v 9, Col. 2:2-3  B. These are the causes for that steadfastness of faith. vs 10-14  1. Saints have a perfect sin-offering in Jesus. vs 10-12, John 1:29  2. Disciples can go to Jesus. v 13, Matt. 11:28-30, Acts 2:21  3. Christians can go to heaven when they die. v 14, Phil. 3:20-21  C. These are the requirements for that steadfastness of faith. vs 15-16  1. Christians must give the Lord the sacrifice of praise. v 15, 1 Peter 2:5 2. Disciples should give to other people in their needs. v 16, Gal. 6:10 III. THE ELDERS. V 17  A. This is the authority of the elders. v 17 (The elders have the rule of authority in the local congregation.) 1 Peter 5:2- 3  B. This is the work of the elders. v 17 (The elders are to feed the flock.) Acts 20:28-30  C. This is the accountability of the elders. v 17 (The elders are accountable unto God for their conduct and work.) 1 Peter 5:4  D. This is the praise for the elders. v 17 (The elders should be praised for their work.) 1 Tim. 5:17-18 IV. THE PRAYER LIFE: VS 18-19  A. This is the need for prayer. v 18 ("Pray for us.") Phil. 4:6  B. These are the values of prayer. v 18  1. Prayer can purify the conscience. James 5:16  2. Prayer can achieve the purity of life. 1 Peter 5:7, Eph. 6:18  C. This is the effect of prayer. v 19 (Prayer can accomplish great acts in life.) Luke 18:1-8 V. THE BENEDICTION OF HEBREWS: VS 20-21  A. These are the sources of that benediction. v 20  1. That benediction includes the God of peace. Phil. 4:7  2. That benediction pertains to the resurrection of Jesus. Rev. 1:18  3. That benediction refers to the blood of the everlasting covenant. 1 Peter 1:18-21  B. These are the requests of that benediction. v 21  1. That benediction desired perfection for us. v 21, 1 Peter 5:10  2. That benediction wanted the working of God to be in us. v 21, Phil. 2:13 3. That benediction craved the glory of Jesus Christ. Col. 3:1-4 VI. THE FINAL INSTRUCTIONS TO HEBREWS: VS 22-25  A. This is the exhortation of those instructions. v 22 ("Suffer the word of exhortation.")  B. This is the joy of those instructions. v 23 (Paul and Timothy might see them soon.)  C. This is the request of those instructions. v 24 (Salute your rulers.)  D. This was the desire of those instructions. v 25 ("Grace be with you all. Amen.")
