I. OUR OWN SPIRITUAL GROWTH: VS 1-3 

A. These are the negative requirements for our own spiritual growth. v 1  1. Christians must not be controlled by malice because malice is the cause of evil deeds which are being committed. Romans 1:32, Heb. 10:26  2. Disciples should not speak words of guile because guile is designed for purpose of deceiving an individual. Romans 16:17-18  3. Member of the church ought not be ruled by hypocrisy because hypocrisy is an act of pretense. Matt. 23:13-14, 23, 25, 27-30  4. Saints must not be governed by envy because envy engenders unhappiness and evil works. James 3:16  5. Brethren should not engage in evil speaking because evil speaking would be slanderous remarks about other persons. Gal. 5:15, Romans 14:19  B. These are the positive requirements for our own spiritual growth. v 2  1. Christians must desire the word of God. Heb. 5:12-14  2. Saints should believe the word of God. Romans 10:17, Heb. 11:6  3. All faithful members of the church can inherit eternal life. Romans 2:7 II. CHRIST IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH: VS 4-10  A. These are the characteristics of Christ. v 4  1. Christ is rejected by some men. v 4, John 1:11-12  2. Christ is accepted by God. v 4, Acts 2:36, Acts 4:12  B. These are the powers of Christ. v 5  1. Christ has the power to make us to be a living stone. v 5, John 5:12  2. Christ has the authority to build us upon a spiritual house. v 5, Acts 2:47  3. Christ has the power to make us to be an holy priesthood. v 5, Rev. 1:6  C. This is the rule of Christ. vs 6-8  1. If the rule of Christ is accepted, He is precious. v 6, John 6:68  2. Disciples are the chosen people of God. v 10, Gal. 3:27-29 III. SERVING THE LORD: VS 11-17  A. These are the admonitions for that service. v 11  1. Christians should serve the Lord because this life is short. James 4:14- 15  2. Disciples need to serve the Lord because there is the conflict between good and evil. Gal. 5:17  B. These are the values for that service. v 12  1. Serving the Lord will keep us honest. Matt. 7:12  2. Serving the Lord will bring glory to God. Romans 15:6  C. These are the requirements for that service. vs 13-17  1. Saints must obey the civil laws of man. vs 13-16, Romans 13:1-6  2. Christians need to obey the Spiritual Laws of God. v 17, Eccles. 12:13-14 IV. SUFFERING WRONGFULLY: VS 18-25  A. This is the mandate for suffering wrongfully. v 18 (The servant must be obedient to his master even if the servant is mistreated by his master.)  B. These are the reasons for suffering wrongfully. v 19  1. Suffering wrongfully is honorable to the Lord. v 19, Matt. 5:10-12  2. Suffering wrongfully is acceptable to God. v 20, 1 Peter 4:14  C. Christ is an example of suffering wrongfully. vs 21-24  1. Christians should follow the examples of Christ in their sufferings. v 21, Phil. 2:5-9  2. I. THE HUSBAND AND WIFE RELATIONSHIP: VS 1-7 

A. These are the duties of the wife. vs 1-6  1. The wife is to obey her husband. v 1  2. The wife is to manifest righteousness. v 2  3. The wife is to dress for spiritual beauty, not for physical beauty. vs 3-4  4. The wife is to follow the example of Sarah. vs 5-6  B. These are the duties of the husband. v 7  1. The husband is to live with his wife.  2. The husband is to honor his wife. II. THE DIVINE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHRISTIANS: VS 8-9  A. These are the positive requirements for that relationship. v 8  1. Christians must be united in their efforts. 1 Cor. 1:10  2. Saints must love one another. Gal. 5:13-15  3. Disciples must be pitiful in their dealings with each another. Gal. 6:1-2  4. Brethren must be courteous in their dealings with one another. Eph. 4:32 B. These are the desires for that happy life. v 10  1. A Christian loves life. Phil. 1:21  2. A saint desires to see good days. Heb. 12:5-6  B. These are the requirements for that happy life. vs 10-11  1. Christians must give up their evil language. v 10, Col. 4:6, James 3:7-8 2. Saints must give up their evil deeds. v 11, Jude 11-15  3. Disciples must do good deeds. v 11, Gal. 6:10  4. Brethren must pursue peace. v 11, Matt. 5:9, John 14:27  C. These are the assurances of that happy life. v 12  1. The providence of God is promised for the righteous. v 12, Romans 8:28  2. The punishment of God is promised for the wicked. v 12, 2 Thess. 1:7-9 IV. OVERCOMING OUR OWN PERSECUTIONS: VS 13-17  A. These are the mysteries of our own persecutions. v 13  1. Christians have mysterious trails. 1 Peter 4:12-14  2. Brethren receive mysterious slander. 1 Peter 4:3-4  B. These are the joys of our own persecutions. v 14  1. Saints can rejoice over their persecutions. Matt. 5:11-12  2. Christians can rejoice over their temptations. James 1:2-4  C. These are the instructions for our own persecutions. v 14  1. A Christian should not fear man. Matt. 10:28  2. A disciple must not be fearful for any reason. Isa. 41:10  D. These are the ways of overcoming our own persecutions. vs 15-16  1. Christians must allow the Lord to control their intellect. v 15, Col. 3:1-4  2. These are the sources of our salvation. v 18  1. Christians are saved by the authority of Christ. Matt. 28:18-20  2. Saints are saved by the sacrifice of Christ. 1 Cor. 15:1-4  3. Disciples are saved by becoming a new creature in Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17.  B. These are the assurances of our salvation. vs 19-20  1. These are the reasons for our own spirituality. v 3 (Our past life of sin should have satisfied us.) Jude 12-13  C. These are the oppositions to our own spirituality. v 4  1. The sinners will speak evil of us as being a Christian.  2. The Christians will be persecuted. Matt. 5:11-12  D. These are the motivations for our own spirituality. vs 5-6  1. Each person is accountable unto God. v 5, Acts 17:30-31  2. Each person will be judged by Christ. v 6, 2 Cor. 5:10 II. THE SUMMONS FOR OUR FAITHFULNESS: VS 7-11  A. These the ways by which we can achieve our faithfulness. v 11  1. Christians can become faithful by speaking as the oracles of God. 2 Tim. 4:1-5  2. Disciples can become faithful by serving the Lord their God according to His will. Phi. 2:12-13 III. OUR SUFFERING FOR CHRISTIANITY: VS 12-19  A. These are the realities of our suffering. v 12  1. A Christian is tempted when he is the weakest.  2. A disciple is tempted where he is the weakest.  B. These are the blessings for our suffering. vs 13-14  1. Christians will be given eternal life on the day of judgment. v 13, John 5:29-30  2. Saints will receive the greatest degree of happiness in that world which is to come. v 14, 1 Tim. 4:8  C. These are the essentials for suffering. vs 15-16  1. These are the negative commandments for suffering. vs 15-16  a). Christians can not suffer as a murderer. 1 John 3:15  b). Saints should not suffer as thief. Eph. 4:28  c). Disciples ought not to suffer as an evildoer. 1 Peter 3:9  d). Brethren must not suffer as a busybody. 2 Thess 3:11  2. These are the positive commandments for suffering. v 16  a). We must suffer as being a Christian. 2 Tim. 3:12  b). We must suffer for righteousness. Matt 5:11-12  D. There will be scoffers who will mock God. vs 3-4, Gal. 6:6-9  2. Those persons who are deceived will have false securities. vs 3-4, 1 Thess. 5:1-3  C. These are the assurances of the second coming of Christ. vs 5-9  1. God's powerful nature proves that He will come. vs 5-7, Rev. 19:6  2. God's unlimited nature reveals that He will come. v 8 , Psa. 145:13  3. God's unusual nature confirms that He will come. v 9, James 5:7  D. These will be the results of the second coming of Christ. v 10  1. The Lord will come as a thief in the night. v 10, Matt. 25:1-13  2. This earth will pass away. v 10, Rev. 21:1-4 II. BEING PREPARED FOR THAT GREAT DAY: VS 11-18  A. These are the admonitions for being prepared for that great day. vs 11-12  1. This world will come to and end. v 11, Rev. 21:1-4  2. God will judge this world. v 12, Acts 17:30-31  B. These are the blessings for being prepared for that great day. v 13  1. God will kept His promise of eternal life. v 13, 1 John 2:25  2. Faithful Christians will live eternally with God in heaven. v 13, 1 Peter 1:3- 5  C. These are the essentials for being prepared for that great day. vs 14-18  1. Christians must be diligent in their lives so that they can be spotless in Him. v 14, Heb. 6:11  2. Disciples need to grow in spiritual wisdom and knowledge. vs 15-16, James 1:5-6  3. Saints should be aware of religious error. v 17, Heb. 13:9  4. Brethren ought to grow in a spiritual way. v 18, Eph. 4:15
