THE WORK OF THE CHURCH
Introduction:
Many times today we get confused about what we are supposed
to be doing as the work of the Church. Many times the treasury is misused,
many times we fail in doing what God has given us to do. Maybe if we would
go back to the simple format the Bible lays out for us we could conclude
rightly the work of the Church. All things the Church is supposed to be
doing can be summed up under three topics: Preaching, Edification, and
Benevolence. Remember the Church is the Body – Colossians
1:18, and the Body is the people I
Corinthians 12:12. In essence these are commands individually
and as a whole.
I. Preaching
The Great Commission – Matthew 28:19
and Mark 16:15-16
Every Day – Acts 5:42
Everywhere – Acts 8:4
Preaching Christ and the Church – Acts
8:12 and Acts 28:31
Preaching Repentance and Salvation – Acts
3:19-20
Converting souls – Acts 2:39-41
Boldly – Ephesians 6:19-20
II. Edification
– Build Up
All things be done unto Edification – I
Corinthians 14:26
Comfort and Edify – I Thessalonians
5:11
III.
Benevolence
To the saints – Romans 12:13
To all men – Galatians 6:10
and Matthew 5:47
Conclusion:
We must press forth in the work God has given to us, and
through the existence of our service fulfill his commands.
