The Home as God Would Have It
Introduction:
In our country we have homes that have children with two
or three dads. We have a divorce rate of astronomical proportions. According
to the American Divorce Reform Association in 1970 there were 4.3 million
divorces in the United States. In 1999 there were 19.1
million divorces making that a percentage of 46%
of marriages ending in divorce. That means that four to five marriages
out of ten will end in divorce. The same data suggest that 35%
of these marriages end within the first five years, and 29%
of those in the first two years. If we would just make God the center
of our lives, and his word the guide for our homes, this could end the
above percentages.
I. The
Home is to begin with a scriptural marriage
Who is free to marry?
Those willing to leave mother and father and be ONE with their spouse
– Genesis 2:18-24
and Matthew 19:3-5
Those never previously married – I
Corinthians 7:28
Widows – Romans 7:1-3
and I Corinthians 7:39
Someone divorced that is the innocent party of fornication
– Matthew 5:32-33 and Matthew
19:9
Marriage is supposed to last – Matthew
19:6
The man the rock the woman the nurturer – Titus
2:1-8
II. The Home is
to have a husband and wife that love each other
Ephesians 5:21-33 – Love
of a Husband and Wife just as Christ loves the Church
Colossians 3:19 –
Husbands love you wives
III. The
Home is to have obedient children
Ephesians 6:1-2 – Obey
Parents Colossians 3:20
Proverbs 13:24 – Spare
not the rod – chasteneth (to CONTINUE to punish or correct)
IV. The Home is
to have God
Joshua 24:15 "And
if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye
will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the
other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye
dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
Conclusion:
A Home that has God will be a home that keeps God!
Is your house a Godly house? Will you be like Joshua and
raise your family in fear and admonition of the Lord?
